Thanks for all the input! I ordered some AT Airwave sets, but then ordered some AT TIforged runners to add if needed for a couple of longer rods I'm building. I'll measure the weight difference of the runners - but they seemed like they might be lighter and I wasn't sure if the SS insert on the airwaves or the nanolite would be "better." I wish there was a physical store I could g

I'm still pretty new to all this but based on the description of it being moderate fast and the picture of the 7109 (which I just ordered myself) it doesn't appear to be something to expect much stiffness from. Looks like you both meant to get this one @Ernie if you feel like that's too long this one looks like a better fit than your first pick - both seem to get to the back bone qui

@ALEKS MASLOV - I did order this blanks, I reached out through phone and email to correct the order as I accidentally ordered the unwanted finish for the DS721 but meant to order the mirror finish. @LYNN - yes this is all to get me set for my first build, or four builds rather. The start up kit and components are already here. The NFC Blanks are for after, I'm hoping I got all the things I nee

Anybody have any thoughts on this? Why is Fuji better than CRB if they state the same material make up? Is it just all the size of the guides?

Share what you got on Black Friday and are still looking at for Cyber Monday... Do you guys think coatings have any measurable effect on guide weight (such as a black or chrome version of same guide set)? I don't see any info about guide weight when looking to purchase, do you just kind of go by experience/visual and material input to guess? They come in so many sizes and shapes it's crazy - American Tackle Microwave and Airwave and all that look appealing - your thoug

Hi all, I was planning on grabbing a handful of blanks from NFC for black Friday - any recommendations for blanks to cast finesse lures like ned and dropshot? (Mostly ned at 1/16 oz) I keep going back and forth on XF or more MF to play the fish without coming off. I've actually purchased a couple of rods this past year for this purpose and they're just not quite right - I got a 7'6 medium l

I tried looking at Composite forge a few weeks ago when I bumped into an article about rodgeeks and paul/bob etc. Just double checked and the website is still just one page with contact info and nothing about rods or blanks. New to this - what exactly is the OEM rod business? They'll manufacture blanks for other companies to put their name on?

@BRANDON - yeah they screwed up. I was considering their blanks largely on the fact u could get a burtn orange or fun green. Other companies have competitive prices and quality that edges out RodGeeks. I was literally on their site and emailed a couple questions like a day or 2 before the post about the site changing. They still even say in the site they don't offer SC3 because they offer SC4

@SPENCER - Looking at every single seat listed on Mudhole there appears to be a number of them that would allow the reel to sit as low as possible and the trigger to sit as high as possible. SO long as the trigger is sitting low and the grip is made to sit high it should have the same affect as a seat "designed" or marketed to be offset. I can't see how some of these other seats can be

@NORMAN - thanks my man, very helpful info and tip. Makes me wonder why more videos don't include chamfering. Is rod building like fishing - where some people will discover a very effective modification/lure/technique/location and then die without telling anybody so nobody gets to ever experience the same joy and success? I feel like even on forums people will only share so much, but we know

@NORMAN - Thanks, I'll be honest it looks like the "offset reel seat" is really just a reel seat with a bump towards the back to line up with an offset grip - the triggers on a number of seats sit lower or higher but that one doesn't look unlike others that sit higher, the only difference being that hunch back. The pics helped me compare to what's available on the market and I think I c

Okay cool, thanks. I'm gonna try to do all the grips and seats for all 4 rods in the same batch of epoxy so I'll mix a pretty good size glob. That's a word we don't use enough in life - glob I see often when people apply epoxy for grips and slide on a ton gets bulked up and pushed off - can I just drop that back onto my mixing paper and apply to next grip? How snug should the grip be dry fitti

Thanks again y’all for the tips and advice. Rod maker magazine only has 15 vids on YouTube, am I looking at the wrong channel? For epoxy for grips how much do you mix and how do you measure it?

Quick questions - I saw some stuff about color preserver (or thread already treated that doesn’t need preserver) making wrap finish not totally absorb into threads so it doesn’t set as strong as thread without preserver - your experience and thoughts? Saw a video where one side was treated and the other not - was certainly convincing. I’ve watched so many hours of rod building vids on YouTube

So it seems the only place to actually get anything offset is to buy a rod from Edge? Because Wiebe and Super Sticker are dead and nobody else has anything like it. Can you buy foam core or cork with no hole already in them so that I could try to just make something like it myself? Maybe slice a flat side into a cork grip and glue another piece on top?

I got the deluxe kit from getbitoutdoors coming my way, it has a little less than mudhole kit, but better reamers and since I plan to biuld my first rod soon and then build for another 30-50 years I went with that one. The hand wrapper it comes with looks less intricate than the mudhole one, but the pics on getbit seem a little lacking. It also comes with a dryer that seems to have a little m
