I understand there was a push for this a number of years ago and CCS caught a buzz, then people tried to complicate things and succeeded - thus the buzz wore off and nothing really stuck. If this site has the weight behind it which it seems too I think the group here could make an impact on the industry. I would posit that this would also be a great time to expand the vocabulary that goes

Thanks for all the input. I feel like CB blanks are just a little softer than I think I want, CB modfast vs MB mod fast vs whatever else I guess is part of the confusion. I can't believe some of the blanks called fast that I see online, but in each category I guess it's all relative. @MICHAEL thanks, very helpful for me to have some sort of reference to what I can expect with correlating AA a

I'm looking for a blank for swimjigs and maybe some chatterbait and plain old jigs that would pretty much stay between 1/4-1/2 oz weight. I feel like 1/4 and 1/2 can be challenging to toss on the same rod (with the 1/4 being the problem not loading to launch well)depending on the reel, so probably more 3/8-1/2 oz. NFC has most of their blanks labeled fast but they all look different- I was th

Thanks for all the input yall! @EVAN if x-ray blank can be compared to a z-bone by Kistler than it's gotta be better than the Abu Garcia Fantsista x, and thanks for the cost to build breakdown. @PETER thanks for the direct comparisons, very helpful to understand the quality reference. @DAVID - what is that reel seat configuration that you can't replicate? And thanks to you as well for a

Hi Brian, welcome to the forum! I recommend you take a look at North Fork Composites, they're having an awesome sale and make fantastic blanks (even though I'm new myself countless hours of research lead me to them). I actually called the other day about an order, I was too late to catch my error and fix my order because they already had it packed ready to ship, but I spoke with someone who gave

@DAVID - I did a wrap last night practically constantly packing and at most every 3-4 wraps. Was definitely a lot neater looking, but I'm still uncertain of the tension and I don't want to check too hard and mess it up but trying to line up the guide again required a good amount of force and wiggling. @KENT - I also am a man of science, and of faith, and appreciate how you value the physics o

Thanks for sharing your experiences, I'm using the blue shop towels instead of regular paper towels. I mixed another smaller batch of flex coat for a craft project for my wife. It stayed usable significantly longer. I think the initial measurements were maybe about 1/4-1/3 off a CC off from each other with a 3 CC each goal. But idk if that was really the problem since I just pushed the syring

Okay cool thanks for sharing your thoughts, I just happened to see some abu and Fenwick half off. Bow that I've started rod building I didn't think if ever buy another manufactured rod - but 50% off seems like I'm not sure I could build one that cheap with equal parts. But seems counter my goal bow that I have a bunch of stuff to do building. Maybe I'll just get another x ray instead of the f

@ALEKS I respect that decision. I've only been here a short time and Norm has already been exceptionally helpful and generous, he already makes the board a better place and I'm sure will only continue to do so. Congrats new friend!

Hey, I was hoping to get some input on abu garcia rods in general, and specifically Veritas tournament and fantasista x if you have experience with those. Or Fenwick in general? Compared to other rods or NFC blanks where do they stand?

THANKS A bunch fellas, very helpful info. Sj 736 looks like a mh/h xf - and although you guys Def got me itching for one my kistler helium fits that bill so I don't think ibcan justify buying another. Unless I mirror all my casting set ups with spinning set ups for garbage windy days or easier nights without worrying about a backlashing. Would you say it's an xf? I'll take a look at the 7

Is there a way to retrieve that deleted post, since the common thread of this thread seems to be the transparency of this whole issue? I think it would at least be fair for the entire exchange here to be visible given the turn of events. I'm pretty sure that comment I saw before it was deleted was a little longer than that.

Very helpful explanations, I had heard that cork and EVA are reamed different in that cork is reamed to fit and EVA to squeeze on. The amount of squeeze was my question, but apparently very little squeeze is the answer haha - thanks yall.

I appreciate all the insight and feedback. I'm going to take Spencer up on his offer so I won't need to cut the blank after all- which I'm super grateful for since I have none of the tools/work space nor the any point of reference as to what affect it will have - but I trust when you say it probably best to avoid it. Should I move the bottom part of my post to another new thread so it's more c

Awesome thanks yall! I'm still a ways away from being able to venture into all this, but I can already tell I'm hooked on the idea of being able to add that much more customization. Maybe through the next year or two I can slowly accumulate some different tools and stuff, I'm just hoping I can keep finding people to build for - in already building rods my my daughter, wife, friend, his kids, mysel

Awesome Spencer, thanks! I'll send an email. I've never even seen a Lamiglas rod in person, but definitely hear good things. Not gonna lie, the way this community has welcomed me and supported me in such a short time already has really been quite a blessing, I'm truly grateful I was moved in this direction. Already has me excited for the day I can help out the new kid haha.

You couldn't use the drill set up to wrap? How can I tell what size seats the spinning rods I already have are? I really wish I had more time and resources to to a total deep dive into all this, I want to make a hundred rods and experiment with all this different stuff. Maybe I'll strip some rods I have just to play around a bit, it's certainly not a hundred, but it's certainly a start.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I can see heavier acrylic being useless for pitching and Flippin to help ease some of that motion on the wrist, and the arbor idea is great because geez that looks awesome!

How close to the spot you want the EVA grip to be placed do you ream? I've seen people push a grip down like 2 feet and others only have to push it down like 5 inches. How tight should it be?

In thinking of cutting back that NFC 705 SM to 6ft. How do you cut a blank? What can I use the left over rod piece for (reel seat insert, extend another rod)? The goal here is to have a rather short rod for fishing under the dock I'm standing on, and the boats there next to it. These bass are 4-7 pounds and smart - it's brutal crystal clear water like 35+ft visibility at least and always. I've

Thanks! Could I just not use a grip and instead build epoxy ramps to the spinning seat? What's the thinnest you think a grip could be and still hold up well enough?

I think just to add clarity - when holding the blank you want the curve to bend towards the ground/water regardless of it becoming a casting or spinning rod. My understanding from countless hours of research is that this is more important than building on the spine. If the spine happens to be found with the bend in any direction besides down then build on the bend and not the spine. The impact

@MICHAEL - could you share an example of a shape that you make that isn't available? Is it just for the ergonomics of it? Can you buy cork that has no bore holes? What impact does the cork quality have aside from aesthetics or comfort? Would an actual piece of wood be more sensitive and able to be shaped like this? @JOHN I love the design and ease/convenience, but definitely a bit out of my

Thanks for all the input yall... I started typing this a while ago and got pulled from my laptop so I forget what I was going to say haha. @MARK - I wasn't thinking GEN 4 will solve my problems, I just happen to have some and was going to see how that one feels but don't have anything to coat with it right now so I was wondering if a layer of the Flex Coat would be an issue. I've never worked with wood, don't know anybody who works with wood, don't have a place to do this, and have barely got 2 rods under my belt. I want to do this haha. Is the only benefit to shaping the cork yourself that you get to make the shape yourself? Is there a cost difference? The Flex Coat video looked like he made pretty typical shape cork - wouldn't it be quicker, cleaner, easier, and

The issue I had was finding the ultra fine scotch brite 7445 - the white one. Nobody had it it anywhere. I thought when Tom said ultra fine he meant specifically the scotch brite labeled ultra fine - apparently all scotch brite is relatively ultra fine haha. A little blue came off onto the pad, but unnoticeable on the blank. I kept rubbing because the stickiness from the blank sticker was sti
