@Michael - here is a blurb from Loomis website says it goes back to 1982 "MULTI-TAPER DESIGN Since 1982, we’ve pushed the boundaries of manufacturing technology, materials innovation, and product design. That’s why G. Loomis fly rods deliver superior performance, heightening angler experience and effectiveness on the water. While there are countless examples of this philosophy in action,

@Mark - thanks for mentioning the risk of using things that might have some other stuff going on than I'm aware, and for the bottle stops idea - Now I just gotta make sure I find the right size. @Leslie - Thanks for the dogpile, the more I'm carrying the stronger I feel, keep it coming if you got it. Do you use a hard ruler for wrapping and a soft measuring tape for layout? A plastic ruler mig

I was told by a representative at NFC to ask here about finding an offset reel seat and grips. He wasn't sure if any of the grips they have are offset, does anybody know any offset reel seat and offset grip? I found the Fuji ECSM reel seat which is slightly offset, but it's not clear if the seat sits low with the trigger higher up closer to the blank - like I'm looking for - or if they mean th

Okay thanks, I think I'll give it a go for swim jig and chatterbait - I'll probably feel it out with a jig/worm just to see what it's like - if not for the tip being not to your liking for bottom contact how is it for sensitivity?

Thanks so much for all the tips y'all. They're for my nephew in law and my buddies 3 kids. I got him hooked on fishing about a year and a half or so ago and now he's just as out of his mind about it as anybody who would join an online forum about it haha. @Mark - sensory overload is what brings me back down to earth and motivates me haha. Plus I love learning and hearing from people, once I

Man that Bob Taylor vid was so fluid I literally ooed at how smooth and effective that was. I don't know if bulge makes that much of a difference, but that wrap was impressively low profile and looked solid. Even just his demeanor and craftsmanship demanded a certain appreciation and respect - it looked like breathing for him haha.

Have you used a hot shot blank before? I'm new but I've been reading a ton and watching videos and doing a lot of research and bumped into some things encouraging me to try things outside of their prescribed use if necessary or beneficial. If there isn't a casting or spinning blank you can find that fits the bill have you explored the specs and function of how a fly blank would work for you or so

Awesome, thanks so much for all the tips. I still have to order from mudhole, I'll call to order to have them walk through what makes the most sense. Maybe I gave myself too heavy of a work load, but I find I often perform my best under pressure and closer to deadlines - forces me into action and sharpens my senses. How long would one rod take from blank to rod? Obviously being new I'd expect

I'm building four kids spinning rods - color series from Mudhole. I plan to build a few real rods after that - NFC 765 X-ray NEO Probably Microwave Air Guides I'm looking really hard to find an offset real seat and grips (hopefully carbon fiber) to match. I've seen a number of posts on a few different forums over the years of people trying to do the same - seems like there's a gap in

Thanks for all the comments. I was planning on using it for 1/2-1oz or so weights plus plastics for jigs and big t-rigs (so probably a total weight of 3/4-1.5oz) to handle cover from open water to a decent amount of lilies and other vegetation (pretty much always braid and maybe sometimes a leader) and I'm thinking some swim jigs too - but honestly I might just let the rod tell me what it wants t

Hey all, I seen some info posted about the CCS and AA for the NEO, but I'm wondering how the NEO AA is measured when it is advertised as having 3 separate and distinct AA per the NFC website with pictures to show the difference under load. Can anybody share their experience with measurements or actual use with this blank? Does anybody have any TNF data on these NFC blanks? Many than

Hi all, I've never built a rod before, but I'm making four 5'6 spinning rods as Christmas gifts for kids (4rys-9yrs). I have some practice rod kits on the way, but was hoping for some input on materials. How much epoxy do you think that will burn through (wraps and grips etc. using separate epoxy)? I think I might grab some cheaper epoxy (since I got a little bit more expensive epoxy for m

I just wanted to say thanks to all the people that keep this place running, all the people handling the day to day site and tech stuff, all the sponsors, and all the posters. I'm new at this whole rod building thing and I'm grateful there's a place like this with people willing to take the time to share their experiences and thoughts to help others grow and learn.
