151. Re: Epoxy brushes
Thanks I was looking at 1/4 wide flat brushes at hobby lobby. They use them for acrylic and I'll paints. That work?

Any recommendations on epoxy bushes? Finishing up my second rod with cheap brushes and not super happy with the application. Thanks.

Thanks John. That's good to hear. Always like a good value.

154. Re: CRB blanks
Thanks Joe. I'm probably going to give it away once it's done anyway. Figured it would be good practice before I get into higher end blanks.

155. CRB blanks
Any feedback on the CRB blanks? They are pretty cheap but figured they would be something good to practice on since I'm new to building. I would still like it to be fishable though. Looking at a 7' medium casting rod.

Thanks John. Good point.

What's the best tool to cut a blank?

160. Re: Long handle
Good advice. I'll fish it first. I really like the rod but the butt seems to get in the way. Couple inches off would be perfect.

161. Re: Long handle
No. I was really thinking of cutting the blank. Removing the butt section won't shorten it.

162. Long handle
I just finished my first build. Lightweight spinning rod on a 6'6" MHX blank. I did I split grip but feel like it is too long. Can I cut off the butt and put a new one on? It is a 2 inch long butt end.

Anyone build on these blanks and know the difference between the alpha and beta line?

165. Re: Epoxy wait times
It was mostly cured after about 9 hours. I went ahead and did the second coat. Happy with the results. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks. First coat was really thin. I'll check it and see.

169. Re: Epoxy wait times
Thanks. It's in my garage above 80 degrees. Is there a good way to test it without touching it to see if it's ready for another coat?

Hey all. Just did the first epoxy coat on my first rod. How long should I wait between coats? Thanks.

172. Fly blank
Just finished my first build, a light shining rod. I want to try my hand at a fly rod. I like quality fast action rods but don't want to break the on my first fly build. Probably start with a 5wt for throwing heavy opst lines. Any suggestions? Thanks. Gary.

Thanks for all the advice. Sounds like I may be working in the garage and then finishing at the kitchen table. This is my first build so I will take some of the suggestions and see what I come up with for the next one.

175. Re: informed choices
Can someone elaborate on the spine discussion? I'm getting ready to build my first rod and that's one of the first things I read about. Is it not important? Sorry to derail. Thanks.

Will do. Thanks. I just saw the thread on humidity. I'm in south GA and don't think my garage will be clean enough either. I'll look for an inside setup.

177. Rod building area
Hey all. Just getting ready to start my first build so forgive the new guy questions. Do y'all have a dedicated area to build or a portable setup? The only permanent area I would have is in the garage. Can I build in an area that isn't climate controlled? Only other option would be a temporary one in the house. Any thoughts? Thanks.
