What's the rule of thumb for how long to keep the rod dryer turning after finishing?

Thanks Norm. I'll have to find a picture of a finished one. I like the matte look but haven't seen a finished one.

I just built with the CFX CF grip from mudhole. First time using CF. Just to confirm they don't need to be finished? I hadn't even thought about it before.

I've been using mudhole. They are pretty decent for the price.

Thanks Chuck. I'd like to pick your brain a bit. Where is the DM function here?

Thanks Spencer. Now I know why I can't ever find anything with the search function.

Good point Michael. I haven't used any metallic trim but I do finish them as well. I'll have to try it.

Thanks for all the good thoughts. I was mainly taking about premade handles but this has me interested in making my own. Can you turn cork in an alps power wrapper or do you need a dedicated lathe?

Thanks. These are mostly all for fly rods.

Thanks Steve. I realize that but part of this new hobby for me is to build something really nice. It takes me many manhours as I'm a new builder. I want it to be really nice. The extra money is worth it to me.

I have an assortment of the cheap rubber checks that I've been using. I like the look of the aluminum better. Is my only option to measure with calipers the diameter of the blank or is there some standard out there? Thanks. Gary

Any recs on where to buy cork handles? On my last build I had epoxy seap through small cracks in my handle. Thanks. Gary

I agree with Robert on the NFC blank. At that price you can't go wrong. I just finished a 6wt on their classic blank. Best casting rod I own now. I'm replacing my whole arsenal of high end production rods with them.

I don't think you will be disappointed. I have a couple gamma betas coming as well.

I'm a new builder so take it with a grain of salt but I think with the 10 guides I used it would be pretty hard to mess up. Same with 9 on an 8 footer.

Yeah. I posted last week about it. Honestly, I just used spacing from another rod and static tested it. It was perfect and the rod is incredible. It was the classic series 6wt.

I had I similar issue in my NFC 6wt recently. It called for 11 guides. I did a static test and used 10. It is the best casting rod I have.

Thanks Norm. Can you elaborate on why you think fly rods are better find by hand? What hand wrapper so you use? Thanks. Gary

Thanks guys. Just to confirm, no problem wrapping fly rods on a power wrapper?

There is alps wrapper and the forecast. Both by the same manufacturers. Looks like the big difference is the chuck. Any inputs on the difference? Again not building for commercial use.

Dumb question. These power wrappers will work on fly rods? That is mostly what I will be building. Any recs on the best place to buy?

Any recommendations on a power wrapper for a hobby builder? Not planning on any commercial pursuits. Thanks. Gary

Well, I used plastic wrap over the male end and the sections came apart on the dryer. No serious damage to the finish. Second coat I just used tape. Never really got much epoxy on the tape. Probably over thought the process. Thanks for all the tips.

How long are you guys that are using get 4 waiting until a second coat?

Interesting. The NFC blank I'm using has pretty stout ferrules. You can see them built up and I doubt the thread is adding much. I'm doing it for aesthetics at this point.
