Sorry. Both spinning reels. 20lb braid. Typically 3000 series. I used to use the big Cajun poppers. I’ll probably go back to those. Maybe 1/2 oz jig heads on the other rod.

Looking to build a saltwater popper rod and a soft plastic inshore rod. I’ve been out of the conventual tackle game for awhile. Looking for rod spec recommendations or specific blanks. I use mostly NFC fly rods so I am partial to their blanks. Thanks in advance.

I have a friend requesting gold guides on a 6'6" med fast freshwater rod. Any suggestions on where to find gold guides? Thanks. Gary

I've built all my fly rods off of NFC blanks. Love them. My standard is REC titanium guides and an REC RSLS in titanium. I usually use carbon fiber handle and fighting butt. I get it all off mudhole. Super light build.

I just built an SJ 736 for a buddy. He was disappointed with the action. Said it wasn't fast enough?? I'm mostly a fly fisherman but seems he was looking for a broomstick.

Norm, Can you school me on what CCS numbers are? Thanks. Gary

Ben, Yes you can. I mostly fly fish but like to bring a spinning rod for bad weather conditions. Russ and Norm, Thanks for the rec. I'll look at both. I'm building an NFC 705 currently, but haven't looked at the 704. The NFC website is head to navigate so I probably missed it. I'll check out point blank as well. I've never build in one. Gary

Looking for any recommendations on a 7ft medium fast spinning rod blank. Plan on throwing soft plastics for reds and specs inshore. Most of my builds have been in NFC blanks. Looking to expand and try something different. Thanks. Gary.

I'm still a newbie but I just did one today and just used a reamer. I just held it in my hand. Took a little longer because I couldn't go all the way through. Came out perfect..

David, I agree on the lighting. I wear 2.5x glasses and an LED headlamp. I need to find a good desk lamp as well.

Thanks Joe. I'll try the other methods next. Just glad I didn't screw mess this one up. I was going for simple in my first one.

Thanks Joe. Just to clarify I'm ok as is? I've already finished the rod anyway so moving the guide is out. I laid the rod out per NFC spacing. But guide at 0. Second guide at 90 and the third guide at 180. That's a transition spiral?

Well I guess I don't really know what did then. There is 20 inches between the 0 and 180. The 90 degree is half way. This spacing was per NFC but the didn't specify which guides would be offset. The line doesn't touch the blank and it casts well.

Update. I felt like I did everything right in the last rod and still had some small gaps. Just finished another rod and stepped up the size B. What a game changer for me. Thanks for all the advice. I'll still use A in my fly rods though.

Thanks Tom. I followed the NFC spacing guide. It didn't specify which method the spacing was for. I actually installed the second guide at 90 degrees. I static tested it and it looked good. No rubbing on the blank. I'm going to look at some other methods as well after dinner advice from Kent.

Thanks guys. I started today. I chose the simple method to start out. Stripper in top and a bumper guide at 90 degrees. I'll call it before I epoxy it.

Building an NFC MB705. Medium heavy fast action rod. The NFC guide spacing chart shows traditional and spiral wrap guide spacing. Can anyone point me to a good resource on how to set up a spiral wrap? I've never done it. Few additional questions. Do I need special guides? I have a set of casting guides I was planning on using. Can you do this any on any rod? Thanks in advance. Gary.

Tony, just checked out your website. Nice work. It's funny, I just started a rod with that variegated thread. Did you use CP on it. I've got it from pro wrap but it doesn't specify colorfast. Thanks.

That's a good idea. It's a bass rod. I'm going to let it go.

Thanks for the info. I don't know anything about glass rods but I may take a look.

Thanks Tony. Unfortunately, I already epoxied it. I will keep that in mind next time. I'm not even sure it's a bubble. May be a contaminant.

Thanks. Sounds like it isn't worth it. I'll just leave it. It's my personal rod anyway.

Just finished a rod. Found some air bubbles under the decal. Is it possible to remove and replace with a new decal?

I packed and burnished as best I could. Packed after every wrap. It took me forever. I did the best I could and just epoxied it this morning. The rod is for me so I will live with it. It's only on the runners on the thinest part of the blank. I'm building the same rod for a buddy but am using black thread. I may bump up the size.

Now I'm confused. 00 thread?
Forum: rodboard

I was told that the smaller diameter was easier to use and laid tighter. Again, I'm a new builder so I have no idea. What goes into thread size selection?
