Sounds like a plan. Thanks. If some gets in the male side will it affect the ferrule when I pull it apart?

Are there any techniques for finishing ferrules on multi piece fly rods without getting finish on the other connecting peice? Thanks. Gary

I'm all honesty, I think it would be hard to mess it up with 10 guides.

Thanks for the info. I'm done. I put the guides where I thought based off of some charts and similar rods I had. Went out and cast it and static load tested it. Looked good. I think I was over thinking it.

Thanks Roger. That's exactly what I do. I will add the toothbrush to the arsenal. That would have been easier to get into those cracks.

Understood. I'm planning on using 10. That seems to be the standard. I'll static load test it. I feel better after reading on it.

I'm pretty sure given my casting ability I won't be able to prove anything. Lol. As a new builder, I'm just trying to figure it all out.

Thanks. Are you saying glue and let dry for each part? Even doing that doesn't keep glue out if the reel seat cutout. I had to pick the glue out with a toothpick.

Thanks Tom. I just ran across your article on stress testing on another site. I'm going go ahead and use what I have and follow your instructions. The real motivation here is not wanting to order 1 guide online and waiting a week for it. Lol.

Thanks Donald. I agree but it's odd that I can't find another spacing guide in the 6wt range with that many guides. They also have the tip top at 3.7. A 4 works. I'm new to this but find it hard to believe that this blank requires an extra guide. We are taking about a half in difference at most. But again. I'm new.

Another new guy question. Thanks in advance. Building an NFC 6wt. The NFC guide spacing chart online shows 11 guides. I bought a Rec recoil guide set with 10 guides in it. All my other 6wt have 10 guides as well. Am I safe to follow my other 6wt guide spacing or follow the NFC and add in one more guide?

Thanks guys. I ended up shimming it with tape. It only took 2 wraps. This is my first fly rod and had a few issues. The epoxy came oozing out of the cutout for the reel seat. I ended up with epoxy in the slots for the reel foot. It was a disaster. I eventually got it cleaned up and it looks good. Any suggestions? Taking the carbon fiber was a great idea. Thanks Michael.

Just got a new carbon fiber handle for a 6wt. It doesn't have to be reamed as it is a little loose. My question is will the epoxy be enough to hold it in place or do I need to build up the blank with tape. It isn't too loose but slides on easily. Thanks in advance.

Just got an NFC 4 and 6 WT blank. I can see spiraling by the ferrules. Is that normal? They are the classics.

Funny you say that. I could find no discernable spine on any of the rod pieces.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to leave it as is. I like the look. Honestly, I can't really tell the straightest axis on each rid peice. It's negligible.

Great thanks. If you question,. This blank seems pretty raw. Leaves graphite dust on my hand. Do most people keep the rod blank unfinished?

I read the thread on spine vs straightest axis. What are some techniques for a 4 piece fly rod, if any?

Just got an NFC 906-4 in the mail today. It's my first fly rod build, 3rd overall. The tip top is listed at 3.6. Can that be right?

I ordered a month ago when the sale started..... Nothing. It's odd how some people get stuff from NFC so quickly and sometimes it's months.

I ended up buying an assortment of flat oil/acrylic paint brushes from hobby lobby. It was a real game changer for me. I'm also new at this but the control was better than the disposable ones I had.
