Thanks for the replies. I'm packing the thread every couple wraps. I never thought of double wrapping. I'm sure that it has been hidden in the past since I mainly use black.

I'm about 8 rods into this addiction. I'm just finishing up a 6'6" casting rod. I've been doing mostly fly rods to this point. Most of my builds have been size A black thread on NFC blanks. This time around I decided to use orange thread to match the reel in using. I've got a power wrapper as well. I can't seem to get the thread packed enough to eliminate there gaps and can see some blac

Thanks Roger. I actually filed them down. This is the first rod I've had issues with. Not sure why.

Thanks Tom. I always use a FC leader for that very reason.

Thanks for the replies. I just finished wrapping a 6'6 getting rod. I wanted to use the fuji KWs but couldn't find them. I subbed in the LZR guides. I've never had so much trouble getting the thread to climb guides.

I asked a similar question last week. I applied another coat last weekend after almost 3 months. No issues. I was using the standard gen4.

I've always been a fly guy but have started building some conventional gear. My question is how does braid play into rod specs? If a rod is rated for 10-17 lb does it matter what braid I put on it? Thanks.

Thanks. I'm building in an NFC MB 705. I will start with that provided guide spacing and go from there.

I just had the same issue. I bought another reel seat. I didn't want to damage the CF grip trying to fit it. Mine was too big. I'm a new builder but have found I'm much happier with the outcome when I buy the right components. I used a standard loop on my recent 5 WT.

Grant. Can you elaborate on installation method? I just use the same epoxy I use while installing the the handle.

Thanks for the responses. Lance hit the nail on the head for why I posted the question. I'm building both fresh and saltwater rods and was curious about water intrusion under the handle. Of course, I probably don't fish enough for this to be a problem.

It's between a medium and a heavy power rod. It will be braid or sub 20lbs FC.

Thanks guys. Just wanted to make sure I didn't need to epoxy the check where it meets the cork. I was worried about water intrusion. Sounds like it doesn't matter. I'll keep my current method.

Having trouble finding the fuji Kw I want. I found the light duty LZRs that are size 8, 6, 5. Is that too small for a medium heavy bass rod?

Thanks Michael. When you lightly finish the check do you take it to the cork?

I have been finishing my rods on to the winding check for a smooth transition to the blank. My question is do most people cover the whole check all the way to the cork handle? Also, on split grips I haven't done any finishing on the blank or checks between the split. Curious on what other folks do. Sorry for all the new guy questions. I appreciate the responses. Thanks. Gary

Crafty cutter looks great but you can't buy it anywhere. I'll try forstner bits I suppose.

Just started turning my own handles. Can someone tell me how to ream out the cutout for the reel seat? This is mostly for fly rods. Thanks. Gary

Perfect. Thanks Norm. It's got two good coats on it so it shouldn't come close to the thread. I just want to blend it. I understand after a couple of months since the build it isn't a chemical bond but will an adhesive bond still look clear?

Thanks. On a few there is some extra build up visible. Almost like the epoxy was applied after it sat too long and wasn't able to self level. I'd like to knock it down a bit and put a thin coat on to blend it. Can I sand it down a bit?

I finished my first fly rod in early October. I've built a bunch since then and my epoxy work has much improved. I pulled out that first rod, an NFC 6wt, and saw some imperfections in the finish. It is only cosmetic but it bothers me. My question is there a way to redo epoxy or add another coat this far removed without removing it all? Thanks. Gary

Thanks fellas. I bought the regular. Just thought I'd see what application I would use the low for.

I guess a better question would be what application would I use the low build for. I understand the difference between the two viscosities.

I've been using G4 epoxy. I went to order more and there is an option for high or low build. I assume I've been using high because it doesn't say on the bottle. Can anyone tell me what the difference is? Thanks.

NFC is having a big sale. The classic is in your price range. I just built a couple and they are my favorite casting rods.
