For me its 24 hours, just because of my schedule with work and other activities. I find Gen 4 to be tack free in 12 to 16 hours, but that depends on the temp swings in my shop space. My shop can be as cool as 60 and tops out at 70. Big difference in set up and cure time between those two temps, but I don't have the option to keep shop at a constant 70 degrees.
You can apply your second coat as soon as the finish is tack free, use your mixing cup or aluminum foil for the finger print test. Re: Question for Gen 4 users

Thanks Bill. I'm still new to this. How many coats do you usually have to do? Re: Question for Gen 4 users

I do 2, my first is just a "saturation coat", you can apply a light coat of a high viscosity finish, second being the final coat, still applied lightly. Re: Question for Gen 4 users

Thanks. I did 2 but had to mix a little up to touch up a couple spots. Re: Question for Gen 4 users

I recoated one rod in about 20 hours, and another in 24 hours, with great results. I couldn’t be happier with this product. I never had a poor result with Andy’s previously developed products, and Generation 4. kicks those efforts up to what seems like near perfection in mixing, air release, application, leveling, and drying. I did use a tent and mini heater each time. I really liked how Generation 4. worked with regular Ultra Poly. Great results, with low effort, and no issues seems like the holy grail. I doubt that I’ll ever change this combination. I still have a couple of rods finished from his first retail batch from a couple of decades ago. These still look great. I’m expecting the durability of Generation 4. to be at least as good. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
