First thing you need to do is check your state and county's sale tax regulations on starting a business.

I might add that anyone that carries their rods in the back of their truck without securing them or anything else around them is asking for a rod to break. As rodbuilders we should educate a person on how to handle, transport and care for their rods so they don't get broken while fishing or in transit.

It doesn't matter how tight or loose you wrap the guides if it's jammed against something or stepped on it will break.

I just wanted to post that A good friend of mine passed away earlier this week. Some of you may remember Bobby Feazel, he wrote an article for Rodmaker Magazine a few years ago detailing what he termed Electric Decals, a how to on making your own decals using an ink jet printer. He also spent the weekend in my booth the year the article came out demonstrating to everyone his techniques on making

I,don't know but on all of my rods I measure from where the cork or EVA meets up with the reel seat to the very butt. Which for me makes my grips anywhere from 8" to about 10"

You will need to be more specific in regards to the type of fishing you'll be doing. Will it be trolling or stand up ? How about the length you're looking for. Aluminum butt, slick or EVA grips ? A little more information may get you more replies in selecting your components and blanks.

If you didn't put any type of clear top coat over the paint you can expect the paint to chip if you bump the rod against something or other. I've never seen any painted blank that wouldn't chip when dropped or bumped hard against an object even with an automotive clear coat.

I have the hardest time to get the slight line on the edge to disappear on white blanks with the clear labels. On dark blanks you have to look real hard to notice it and then it's very slight. I tried one on a blank with finish applied to the blank first and the label edges became virtually invisable. The black label on a matte black blank is perfect and the background disappears onto the blank.

Bill, this machine can do a whole lot more. All I made was a simple name decal because my customer wanted him name on his rod. Now I don't have to wait days to get a name decal in the mail if a customer wants it on his rod. I still use Decal Connection for my more intricate or special decals that I may need.

I bought the 360 thinking that if I bought the 270 that at some point I may want to upgrade to the 360 so I upgraded in the beginning. I like the idea of being able to go up to 1 1/2" tape because of the many offshore and stand up rods that I build. I'm just now starting to use it and made several name decals and the resolution is crisp and clear. I also noticed that the half inch tape is on

Why not instead of spending days trying to find a way to color your blank just tell them that what they are asking for is just not possible. Let them know that the blank color that you're trying to reproduce is applied after the blank has been made at the factory and you have no way of applying a tint of the same color as well as what comes from the manufacturer. Sometimes you just have to tel

Same thoughts on the label machine. I bought the larger of the two. Only wished that I had seen them earlier before they sold out, but mine is on order. We now have the capability of printing out professional looking metallic labels on different colored backgrounds at a very reasonable price.

Just wanted to tell everyone Thank You for stopping by our booth this past weekend. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed talking to everyone who stopped by. Also, for everyone who asked about Bill Stevens , he sent his sincere thanks for thinking about him and for the well wishes sent his way. He's been under the weather lately but said he hopes to be back in full swing next year.

Roger, could you please post where you got all that information from on it sure would be some interesting reading on my part. I'm sure other rodbuilders would love to read up on it also. I've been building rods for over 20 years and very rarely do I make a custom rod. I build generic "spec" rods for certain species of fish in my area and have a list of clients and return customers th
