Caught a few of these yesterday, they were chasing threadfin shad in 50 degree water 6-14’ deep.

I built a AT Busido CB68/6-12 for a jerkbait spinning rod and found out it’s underpowered when I caught a 2lb bass and had almost no control over the fish. I had to wait until the fish was completely pooped to get off the line.
On the recent CCS post someone put the power as a medium-light in the low 300 range. I’d say this is accurate and now I’m planning a future build to replace it with a pr

Also notice the epoxy on the logo looks kinda wavy and there’s a slight gap where the rear grip meets the reel seat. Another coat of epoxy will help level out the wave and lightly sanding the grip until the joint is completely flush would look better. Not sure how to fix the gap after it’s all glued but for your next build pay more attention to the details.

A custom rod is one that is built for a person according to what they require same for tailored suites, golf clubs, cars etc.
I would say if you assemble a rod to your liking it’s custom to you not anyone else. Assembling a rod without a request from somebody is no different than a “factory”rod company offering a rod for sale. So if you post a rod on a social media account saying custom rod for

Would building on the spine or straightest axis affect the CCS data?

I read a post about invisible wraps and they were suggesting Hitena STWRAP Rod Wrapping Thread in AAA, Natural? I’m building a 7’4” medium heavy bass fishing rod to throw 3/4oz baits, would this thin tread be compromised in anyway? I do like the way it looks on the pictures I’ve seen.

No line stack on this bass rod… I don’t have any spiral wrapped rods for larger fish.

I used Fuji KB 7 runners on my 10’ surf rod that I’ve caught a few bull reds and many small sharks on with no issues so far.

I prefer the spiral to be opposite of the reel handle. I prefer my right hand for reeling so I do my spirals to the left. My right hand on the handle helps counter any twist to the left that may happen.
I like to create the straightest line path possible to the first belly guide. My stripper guide is always offset, never at 0 degrees. When testing the angle, reel the line thru the guides and p

Cobalt has a slightly higher density to amu ratio… cost doubles but if it could be substituted the rod would be even more sensitive!

Closest I could find on NFC’s site is for a 739 (I’m sure you saw too)
3.8-8.1-13-18.6-25-32.3-40-50
This could be your starting point then static test and move the guides where you want.

254. Re: ZigZag guides
When a fish bites your lure on the drop it’s a vibration that reaches your hand through your hook, line and fishing rod. Depending on the density/hardness of the material the more you’ll feel it.

255. Re: ZigZag guides
Vibration is defined as The oscillating, reciprocating, or other periodic motion of a rigid or elastic body or medium forced from a position or state of equilibrium.
So, when the lure falls thru the water column it’s in the equilibrium state. Once it hits an object you’ll feel the vibration no matter if the line is slack or not.

From what I’ve gathered guide placement is determined more by reel placement. The striper guide should be around 20” from the reel’s line guide.
The amount of guides is usually the length of the rod +1, the 7’2” rod would be 8+ tip top. But, the amount is really up to the builder. I was just looking at a 7’ BSF casting rod that had 14 guides.

I’ve built 2 Rodgeeks C4711XHF and I’ve caught a 30lb Bull Red and a 40” King Mackerel in Navarre. IMO Rodgeeks makes some really good blanks and the ones I’ve built on have been a pleasure to fish with. The 8’ X-comp 802 or 803 maybe perfect for your needs they’re mod-fast.

I looked at some Fuji guide recipes and the largest LC they use for casting rods is a 16mm more commonly the 12mm. An 11’ casting rod with all LC added up to be 16 guides plus the tip top! Lol! Hope this helps.
I’m currently about the replace the MN’s on my 10’ surf rod to LC stripper guides but in a spinning rod configuration. For 10’ spinning rods the LC20 (1st stripper) is anywhere from 37”

I’m also a novice to rod building, not my day job. I picked up building rods 3 years ago when my first son was born and my “free” time was slowly transformed from fishermen to diaper changer. In that time I’ve built/rebuilt around 15 rods mostly casting and a few spinning. I built all my spinning rods using fuji’s NGC and I couldn’t be happier with the performance, I like the NGC so much I’ve reb

Fuji K guides. The 4mm will allow a FG knot to pass without any issues.
Fuji’s PTS reel seats
I also have fallen in love with NFC soft touch grips.

I built a RodGeeks B468MMF, it’s a awesome rod for jerkbaits, lightweight with plenty of backbone. I’m a believer that moderate action blanks are better for treble hook baits and faster action blanks are better suited for single hook presentations.
Skipping lures with a baitcaster is all up to your capabilities of using a baitcaster. lf you are unable to control the spool speed with your thum

I built a DS610 (IM) the action is xtra fast compared to (IM) fast. It works great for 1/0 hooks or less that need a quick responsive hook set.

268. Surf rod help
Hello,
I blew the dust off an old 10’ Penn surf rod to use at the beach in a couple of weeks and I got the wild idea to replace the guides, after this trip of course. The specs say the rod’s rated for 2 to 5oz lures and 20 to 30lbs line. I’m wondering if anyone has built an equivalent rod using KL-H guides. Currently the rod has double foot guides from the stripper to the last runner. I’m not

I would say your right, the sweet spot is around 3 to 4oz. With that said I’ve casted a 6.5oz swimbait but i have to more or less lob it out there. It’s a strong rod and would work for punching. I hook up with a king mackerel without any issue.
