I'm going off the fact that the high-end rods I own from these manufactures all were built on the spine. Could be by chance but I don't believe that's the case. Just my personal experience with products.

All the great rod builders (St. Croix, G-loomis, Shimano, Dobyns, Megabass, Phenix, etc.) seem to build on the spine, must be something to that. The spine is the path of least resistance when torque is applied resulting in less unnecessary strain added to the blank. I'm sure these large manufactures have invested plenty into R&D to bring the customer the best performance.

I’m familiar with the regular and high build pro kote but I’ve been thinking of trying flexcoat. The question I have is flexcoat better or the same? Or is there a different brand I should use?

305. Re: Handle length
The distance from the reel to the butt guide is the thing to consider.

306. Re: surf rod build
Not sure what part of the country you plan to fish but the guys in the northern gulf of FL are using 9’ 1-4oz surf rods, with spinning reels, off the piers. A lot of builds I’m seeing are concept layouts but this is really up to the builder. Guides sizes look something like 40-25-16-10-10-10-10-10-10 something along theses lines with the doulbe foot Fuji K guides. These guys are all fishing for

I have one spiral 3-8oz Swimbait rod and I’m currently building a chatterbait rod. I haven’t noticed any benefits from bass fishing with the Swimbait rod but my biggest bass to date is a 3lber on a A-rig. I do use the Swimbait rod for saltwater so I wanted that style wrap for hard fighting fish like king Mack’s. I don’t think Bass fight hard or long enough for spiral wrap to be that beneficial. T

I’ve been tweeting a spiral wrap NFC Delta 706 rod and the last guide is set around 20”. I taped the guides in place and did some test casting to make sure I like the placement. I also started with the 0-60-120-180 but ended up going with 18-68-128-180. I was getting better distance with less effort on each cast. Looking at the line going through the butt guide it isn’t constantly rubbing the rin

Final spiral placement I’ll end up doing is 18-68-128-180.
Hope this might help.

Free Shipping and the 65% off NFC is a no brainer. The NFC SJ706 blank I got is going to be a jig and pig rod and I have to say it’s nice. It also amazes me that at this low cost they still make a profit, insane how much markup there is.

I’ve built a RODGeeks B468MMF for topwater/jerkbaits and built a B4711XHF for swimbaits. They have a 7’3” B473MM designed for square bills that weighs 1.7oz. I used square bills on my B468MMF and it has enough back bone to handle any bass with ease. This is my go to rod company unless I find something on sale.
I haven’t used any of RODGeeks glass blanks but I would be confident they’d be grea

I’ve been messing around with a spiral wrap on a NFC Delta rod and I’ve noticed when I aligned the butt guide to 30 rather than at 0 I got better casting distance with less effort. I did the 0-60-120-180 wrap then set the level wind in the center, ran the line through the guides, and moved the butt guide until the line was centered in the guide ring. Seems to have less friction when the butt guid

For Inshore reds and trout I’d pick the Shimano Tranx 200 8.5:1 holds around 200 yard of 20lb power pro for $200 it’s built for saltwater with seals to keep the salt/sand out of key areas. I don’t have a 200 yet but I got a 400 and I’ve caught bull reds and king mackerel without fail. I only rinse the exterior after use and haven’t had any issue to date (year 2). Winner in my book.

I do a lot of freshwater bass fishing in my 13’ kayak. Rod length seems to matter most when I’m fishing in tight spots. When I fish along a bank that has overhanging trees the shorter length is better at controlling the fish if it drags me into the trees. The longer rods tend to knock around and tangle quicker than my short rods. Open-water is fair game for any of my rods but for longer cast use
