I’m using ProWraps RNS-A Teal color to blend the tread to the blank and added a few turns of black for an accent.

I finally found some time to wrap the guides, we added another boy to the Tarr clan! Having 3 kids under 5 doesn’t allow much time to finish my rod build.

I replaced the rod guides on my old 10’ Penn surf rod and used Fuji… LC20 - LC16 - KW12 - (4) KT10 - MN12 Tip-Top. It casts 30lbs braid wonderfully far. The placement was determined by the Shimano Stradic 5000 I use. The labeled ratings are similar to your NFC rod but a foot shorter. If my Penn was 11’ I’d add another KT10 or two, depending on the static load test. The factory rod has a Fuji

I’m putting together an NFC Fast Glass 745-1 and the runner is 9cm from the tip. When I tried 10cm the gap from line to blank nearly doubled. That centimeter made a big difference keeping the line gap consistent.

If your going to use a braid to leader I’d go with size 8, if using straight mono I’d use the 6’s. My rod is also a 20-40lbs and I paired it with a Tranx 400. The butt guide is a 12kw to a 10kw then the rest are 8’s. I also spiral wraped them. What reel are you planning to use? This helps to know to choice the right size butt guide.

I use the the alconite CC guides on my saltwater rods and haven’t noticed any rust issues. I’m only fish salt a couple weeks a year but If you want to be safe use titanium. The guys on the striper forum all seem to use the fuji alconite guides. For your build I’d choose the KW’s.

I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong… Xray blanks are 100% graphite and RX6 blanks have graphite and glass. Graphite is more sensitive and responsive, but more fragile. Adding glass to graphite makes a blank more durable but less sensitive and responsive. Your Fenwick rod blank would be the equivalent of a RX6 or rod geeks carbon 2 blank.

Fuji’s KR concept guides are my choice for spinning rods. Guide placement for the KR Concept. I typically use 20lbs braid to a 20lbs mono leader when I fish inshore for the abrasion resistance. If this is the same for you use size 6KT running guides. Fuji VSS or IPS are nice reel seats.

14 guides seems excessive to me. I assume your trying to keep the line from touching the blank under load, if this is the intent you may need more, lol. On casting rods the line’s going to touch the blank under load. Guides are to manage line flow from the reel to the lure to maximize casting distance and to distribute the pressure evenly when the line is being pulled upon. Too many guides cre

I don’t remember where I acquired the logic but the reel handle opposite of the spiral should help counter any twist. I build on the spine so it should be irrelevant.

Handle length depends on preference and purpose. But, for a generic lets say “cast and retrieve” spinnerbait type rod I divide the length into 6ths. Ex. 7’ rod would be 84”/ 6 = 14”. The 14” would be area for the handle. This method (to me) keeps the handle in a good general location that is functional and aesthetically pleasing. 6’ rod = 12” 6’6 rod = 13” handle 7’ rod = 14” handle 8’ rod

David, the soft touch grips have quickly become my favorite of all the grips I’ve used. I’m sure you’ll like them as well.

I’m happy with the balance of the rod even if it adds more to the overall weight. The added weight and the rod being balanced makes it feel lighter than before, I’m sure you know how this works. I’m not sure if I’d ever want to remove the added weight to make it tip heavy, not sure when that would be necessary.

I overbuilt my rodgeeks B4711xhf using all double foot guides… Once I get around to redoing it I’ll do 2 KW and the rest will be KB’s. After looking into saltwater jigging rods I noticed a lot of them using single foot running guides and those rods handle much heavier lures and fish.

The bottom window on the reel seat shows the carbon insert not the blank. The grip on the left, I would guess, has 30hrs of use. The grip on the right is new. I would say the older grip is more tacky and a tad duller looking. The older grip has been in use since February of 2021. I’m happy with them.
