Use this site: Follow the instruction for the stripper and reduction guides then static test for placement of runners. I built a similar rod last year (DS 6107-1 (IM)) and built it for a 3000 size reel. I ended up using KL20H, KL10H, and KL5.5M, then a single KB5, and KT5 running guides. The rod casts great! I could have went with the 16H recommendation but decided to go a size up for when

I’ve been eyeing that American Tackle CB68/6-12 for a few months now, thinking it would make a perfect jerkbait rod!! First jerkbait rod I built the handle a tad too long and it would hang up on my shirt while working the lure... talk about annoying!

I used the alps aluminum reel seat for my Swimbait rod and couldn’t be happier. Never once have I miss having a trigger. I also did a spiral wrap so that might help with any twist.

Try a RODgeeks B468MMF, you’ll love it. I built one for a casting reel and couldn’t be happier. I used it for jerkbaits, crankbaits, and topwater baits. Basically, choose a short, medium/medium heavy rod with a med/med-fast action. When jerking the bait correctly it has a side-to-side action similar to a topwater walking bait. If you want to you can use the same rod for both technics. Always j

I’ve only heard good things about the bushido blanks but haven’t used one yet. If I had to choose between the 7’2” MH or the H i’d pick the MH for DD16’s. These cranks weigh in at 3/4oz and according to the blank ratings either would handle the lure with ease. Choosing the MH for me would reduce some weight and probably have slightly more “whip” to the tip for launching baits further. The softer

I’ve built on two of the delta blanks and they also have the un-sanded finish. I sanded them smooth using fine sandpaper and steal wool. The un-sanded blank is being used by many of the large rod manufacturers. I was checking out a Megabass Levante casting rod and it transitions from a glossy painted section at the handle to the unfinished blank a 30:70 split. I has a really cool affect.

I sized up my guides due to braid to mono connection (I use an FG knot) and wanted ample room for the knot to pass thru the guides. An FG knot with 40lbs braid and 25 - 60lbs mono is about an inch long and stiff, so the larger guides were to allow room for the line to pass and not snag the guides on the way thru. As I stated I could have started with a size 10. The handle length you chose is

I built a SJ 706-1 (IM) for freshwater jigs and a Hybrid CB 705 Zentron (Delta LMX) for bladed jigs a couple years ago. Both rods are casting rods and have been a pleasure to use. The Delta blank is thicker than I was expecting but the action is perfect for it’s purpose. The SJ 706 came out nice, I paired it with Fuji titanium torzite guides and an alps reel seat. I also built a MB 703-1 (Delt

Thanks guys! These recommendations help tremendously. I always second guess what I’m building (when it comes to rods) and hearing other experiences helps me put together a better plan.

Thanks for the responses, I plan to use a Shimano Curado K it’s a 200 size low profile casting reel. The reel will be around 12” from the butt so roughly 6’ from it tip. I haven’t purchased the Phenix blank yet but after looking at other brands the Phenix is calling me in. If there are better options for throwing 1/2oz Squarebill crankbaits, I’m all ears.

I built a RODgeeks C4711XHF 7'11" | Mono. Line Weight: 20 - 40 lb | Lure Weight: 3 - 8 oz | Fast Action, Extra-Heavy Power a few years ago and I used all double foot KW guides (12-10-8-8-8-8-8-8-8-8 and 8 tip top) in a spiral wrap. I’ve used the rod for throwing large swimbaits, umbrella rigs, and pier fishing for King Mackerel. I have it paired with a Shimano Tranx 400 with either 25lb mon

Hey guys, I’m going to put together a crankbait casting rod (Phenix X11) and was wanting some recommendations on guides. For example, should I use 2 or 3 double foot guides or is that overkill? I’ve seen this on factory built comparable rods. The Fuji casting rod kit only has one double foot guide, would this be ok? How does one know what to use or is it more or less personal preference? As alway

Hello, I’m looking for suggestions on what guides to use for a drop shot spinning rod I’m going to be building later this month. I decided to use a NFC DS6107-1 rod blank (due to them being on sale), this is a mag light extra-fast blank that weighs in at 1.5oz. I was looking into using the CBR LZR guides but couldn’t find much of any info about quality. I usually us Fuji (for everything) or Mi

For the drywall tape users... Have you had any problems with use? I recently used it on a rod but wasn’t confident using it for the reel seat so I only did the butt grip/butt cap. I thought it felt too soft for support, am I overthinking this? I like the idea of using this tape because it’s wider and porous but it seems too soft and I kept thinking it wouldn’t give a solid support structure even

Hey everybody, I was wonder what tools folks are using to make an Eva grip for a hidden hood reel seat? I haven’t attempted to fashion my own yet but I would like to learn how. I’m building a short 48” rod for my son (repurposed broken rod) and trying to keep it as inexpensive as possible by using material I already own. Any ideas are always appreciated.

To sum it up bass are usually found around structure and depending on that structure determines the equipment used. This all derived from professional tournament anglers and their time spent on the water. You can use any type of reel to catch a bass but to have the best odds of getting that fish in the boat the equipment makes the difference. A baitcaster can be spooled with a larger diameter lin

Unless you’re using a net to retrieve the fish to the pier I would think the rod might snap trying to reel the fish from the water to the deck. I have a revelation 6’2” I built for light freshwater fish, It’s a great rod but I would think it’s too light for Spanish mackerel from a pier. I’ve also notice when using lighter than a 20lb leader these fish cut me off. My setup for Spanish Mackerel a i

Spiral wrap works fine with topwaters and jerkbaits I use them with mine. To make a comment on top and bottom placement for these type lures the most common rod used for topwater and jerkbaits are... spinning rods.
