Going one ring size larger for the tip top is the norm so you're in good shape , i also equipped my surf rods that use size 5 runners with size 6 tiptops .

Running guides are up to you but with a 2000 size spinner and only 6 -10 pound test line ( Braid i assume) i would go with the smallest runners i could get away with for a variety of reasons . With the last transition guide being a 5.5 you could go with a size 5.5 KB as the choke or go with a size 5 KB it's up to you . A KB is recommended for the choke guide and you may even want to use KB's

So it sounds like you may have tried the casting version , if so what were the pluses and minuses of it or is it just something you assume without having personal experience with it ?

Look at the last post in the thread below , names are mentioned and the member who posted the last post hasn't been active since 2017 , worth sending him an email and ask if he still has parts .

I think Nick is picturing something completely different in his mind and can't visualize what we mean by using cork tape or Winn Grips as the actual grip . I'm guessing he is looking at info from webpages that shows grips being reamed and fitted on blanks that ARE NOT surf rod blanks that are 10 feet in length . EDITED LATE: Nick, if you want to see what Quinn and i are referrin

Roger is assuming you prefer Minima guides , if thats the case those recommendations are fine but so is the Fuji KL-H guides following the recommendations of the KR software , it's dead on accurate .

Nick, this is one i will leave to others who have used reamers because i have not. All my surf rod handles use either shrink wrap or Winn Grip overwraps for the handles . What type of grip are you talking about ? Never mind i see cork , on a 10 foot surf rod ? Thats different but OK if thats what you want .

Oh i missed that you don't have the reel seat location decided on yet , do you know where you will position it along the blank , if you have a good idea at what point you will likely place it then you can still get a very accurate recommendation from the KR concept software . I went through the same thing waiting on the reel seat etc.. to come in the mail. The guide choices are likely to sti

Yup , if he stated that he wants a 24 inch handle than make sure thats what you do even if you think it's nuts . If he ends up complaining if you built it exactly like he said you're good although without it being in writing he could say i said 36 inches lol. Some are open to suggestions and some aren't , just confirm everything no guessing .

RodGeeks blanks are St.Croix blanks but if you mean the labeled St.Croix blanks in the SCV material i don't know , the RodGeeks website should tell you whats available. RodGeeks offers a lot more color options than St. Croix does , most everything listed can come either finished or unfinished.

One of the RodGeeks blanks that i picked up at last years Expo was unpainted and it's finish is super smooth and looks beautiful . I also picked up a White colored RodGeeks blank and to be totally honest the difference between the painted one and unpainted one is nearly undetectable , every other blank manufacturer where i have compared the unfinished blank to the painted blank had a much more n

As many are aware most of the RodGeeks blanks are SC II St.Croix blanks , they don't offer SC III blanks at this time but if there is a demand they will . SC II , SC IV and St. Croix labeled blanks in the SC V are offered by RodGeeks at this time. Their S glass models are ridiculously popular . Spencers comment below terrifies me lol. " They are small diameter heavy wall blanks,

Was away from the computer so sorry about the late response , like Roger said the largest ring but this name of "Primary" is a little confusing , primary meaning the largest ring faces the reel , i suppose you meant do people set it up with the smaller ring facing the reel , no it's never set up that way , that would be backwards.

If you really don't have a clue about length take the reel you plan on using and go to a tackle shop or similar store that has a bunch of rods and see how the different lengths with the reel attached feel to you. I personally like longer length rods because i find them superior casting tools , even between a 7 -71/2 foot blank compared to an 8 footer the eight footer to me makes a huge differenc

Many prefer no paint or other coatings on their blanks and i am one of them , i have a few blanks that i ordered raw with no coatings of any kind and i have the same blanks painted by the factory , i was very surprised just how much more the blank that was painted felt to me when comparing both . Uncoated blanks are perfectly fine and the elements will not harm it in any way . As Tom said a Car

The ocean side where Nick is thinking of fishing has less current than my bathtub . In the NE when fishing for large stripers heavier tackle is much more common as is heavier tackle for big red drum on the mid Atlantic coast . Even with that being the case the overwhelming majority of surfcasters from New England to Florida are equipped with surf rods from 9 to 11 feet in length rated from 1-4 o
