My preference is for a rod/reel to have a slight tip up position when i place my forefinger about 8 to 10 inches forward of the reel stem . To me thats a perfectly balanced outfit and it's done with a full spool of line. There are no standards it's all personal preference and what feels good to you . Easiest way to figure out where to position the reel seat is take the reel you're going to use,

Anthony Unger: " Ive gone to a store and held a rod with them, i personally prefer cork" Anthony already did check it out , he said he likes cork better . Forget the performance crap ........ you do know what forum you're on i assume , custom rod building is all about performance and grip choice is a part of it .

Agreed Lynn , you're probably picturing the full grips that can be seen on many builds, i was just referring to the overwrap tapes that comes in 44 inch lengths and 96 inch lengths . I have no experience with the others, David you will LOVE these for kayak fishing rods.

Anything thats soft will not be as sensitive as using something more dense because it doesn't transfer vibration as effectively . I like it for surf rod handles though and it's thin enough and i wrap it tight enough to not have a noticeable impact on overall sensitivity compared to cork tape for example . If my main goal was ultimate sensitivity it wouldn't be my top choice of course . I

Winn Grips are not something that people should need to be talked into , for $9.99 you can get a 44 inch overwrap and decide for yourself. In your case you have had the chance to check them out first hand and said you like cork better . Either people like them or not , i don't get how some make Winn Grips out to be some kind of budget busting purchase decision , it's a ten dollar item . I

I never use anything underneath shrink tubing when i install to use for a grip so i can't help you there but X Flock either fits of it doesn't and if it doesn't you need to purchase the next larger size so it will slide over what you happen to have underneath . I have made the mistake of buying the wrong diameter before but since most of it will shrink close to 50% going larger still works in mo

I don't know of any primers to know what reel size will match well with what blank, ( Talking about a very balanced feeling setup ) i only go on past experience with different reels and blank lengths . You must know what line type , size and how many yards you plan to spool up before deciding on other factors . Knowing that will not only tell you what rod to look for but what reel as well .

Yes, for an inshore spinner that is 7'6 in length a 22 oz reel is a beast for sure . Spinning reels that weigh in the range of 18 oz - 22 oz balance the best with rods 10 feet to 12 feet in length. With rods under 8 feet look for reels in the 8 oz to 15 oz range for great balance .

If you thought RodGeeks was planning to roll out St. Croixs whole line of blanks you will be waiting forever , only the most requested blanks by rod builders is being considered at this point . The only difference between many RodGeeks blanks & St. Croix blanks is the label & color options. Anyways good luck in your quest.

RodGeeks blanks are St. Croix blanks . Unfortunately at this time RodGeeks does not offer blanks with the SC III material , just SC II , SC IV and blanks labeled as St. Croix in the SC V . I have been a long time user of St. Croix products so i decided to try RodGeeks blanks and they're indeed St. Croix through and through.

You want to enlarge a butt cap a little bit , if it's rubber what i typically do is use a metal rod, ( Solid or hollow) it doesn't matter thats slightly larger in diameter than the inside dimensions of the butt cap and heat the end of the metal rod with a torch . I then carefully align the butt cap over the end of the rod and slowly push down , then remove it . That is one way that has always

Phil should read the " OLYMPIC Sensitivity System " that is provided in that link , it's guaranteed to confuse you to a point where you may end up heaving every piece of fishing equipment you have ever owned in the dumpster & walking off into the abyss never to be seen or heard from again . In the bottom right hand corner of the page there is a translation box just translate it to

Thanks Mo , i just went through all that and translating most of it to English , it's still impossible to understand , the only section that was somewhat understandable was the Autoclave information and that process is no secret , Century rods have been involved with that for many years .

I am not familiar with the "Mud Hole" decals but the "Decal Connections" instructions have worked perfectly for me . To Apply the Decal: Lift the carrier sheet from the backing. The decal will peel up with the top sheet. Place the decal down on the rod in the desired position. Start from the middle and rub the bubbles from there to the edge. You may rub firmly

I understand 100% why companies take advantage of facebook , it makes good marketing sense and there is a ton of potential future customers on there. I can honestly say i have never bought a companies products because of facebook even when i used to be a frequent user , i still refer to print catalogs to find new products i might be interested in and i seek out the companies personal websites t

I have never heard anybody say " You will know when you feel it" about Point Blanks , what i hear is that they like it very much . I have also heard people say the NFC HM material is nowhere near as sensitive as the X RAY's and the differences are extremely apparent when comparing the two . As we all know that is just not going to work for Phil . I think a meeting between Phil a
