Guide set-up for light Walleye jigging rod

I am planning a build for a light Walleye jigging rod. Spinning. Vertical jigging in Canadian lakes with no current 6' to 25'. Jig size range 1/8 - 3/8 oz. I am planning on using a St Croix SCV 5S63MLXF or 5S63MXF. This rod will be used for 99% vertical jigging virtually no casting. I need help picking out the guide types. Is there any reason to use something like NGC or KR concept systems, or something more traditional? I am thinking that even though I am not casting, I will still benefit from the better guide system in terms of rod loading handling fish, etc, correct?

Thanks Herb. You have answered many of my questions over the last several days. I appreciate it. One more question. In the KR Concept calculator, they ask for the distance from the butt end to the spool. I won't really know that until I lay out the rod and reel seat location will I? So is there a way to estimate it?

Oh i missed that you don't have the reel seat location decided on yet , do you know where you will position it along the blank , if you have a good idea at what point you will likely place it then you can still get a very accurate recommendation from the KR concept software . I went through the same thing waiting on the reel seat etc.. to come in the mail.

The guide choices are likely to still be the same even if the reel placement is a little bit off , just remember after you permanently glue the reel seat on to place the reel on it and do a new measurement using the software , guide sizes and type will be the same placement will just change slightly.

At least you will know what guides and sizes to order if you go with the KR concept , order the reel seat at that time as well and anything else you need .

Bob,
Pretty simple.
Pac Bay size 16 match size minima guide. Then, size 10sv minima and size 6 or 5 runners to the tip in the size that you choose.

Good luck

It's interesting to do the KR software multiple times changing dimensions one at a time and seeing how that changes the guide placement recommendation.

Roger is assuming you prefer Minima guides , if thats the case those recommendations are fine but so is the Fuji KL-H guides following the recommendations of the KR software , it's dead on accurate .
