I've got a friend looking for a Musky rod. I've never Musky fished, so I'm looking for a blank suggestion. He's throwing Chaos Tackle Medusa Husky and Medusa Monster baits, so 10-16 oz. Most of the blanks I've seen seem too light for the bait, but I was hoping someone with some experience could tell me if they're capable of throwing 16 oz baits. He requested a 9' blank, but I'm opening the se

To answer the original question, I have used a locking wrap in the past but no longer use one. I have 4s on my personal builds and 4.5-5.5s on customer builds. I might consider using a locking wrap if I used color protector, but don't see the need for it in general.

1. In that price range (go to @#$%& for the best price): Lew's Team Lew's LITE Speed Spool LFS Baitcast Reel Curado K 2. No. I don't particularly like the way the Lew's fits my hands, but others swear by it. 3. Go to a store and see which one you like holding better. Can't go wrong with either of them.

I'm interested in being able to repair damaged rods, so I was reading into the "Repairing Broken Rods" article by Ralph O'Quinn. I'm specifically looking into the rod tip break section. He mentions using a fiberglass rod tip section to repair graphite blanks due to the lower modulus of the material. If you don't have any lying around, where do you find suitable rod tip sections to do

I used the Pac Bay Minima 4 guides, M16, M8, M5 followed by 3 runners. Really happy with the results, thanks again for the advice!

The recommended split on the Fuji SK2 is 34 mm between the two parts. I have seen others state that you're fine with anywhere between 1" and 1.5", but I've always just put mine on at 34mm (~1.34") and never had an issue.

I'm looking to build a swimbait rod for myself. It will be a baitcaster, and it's primary use will be for redfish. I will probably be using 17+ lb fluro or mono. I plan to throw Berkley Grass Pigs, Yum Money Minnows, and Skinny Dippers on 1/4 oz weighted swimbait hooks. I was considering the Rainshadow Revelation REVSB710MH-SB. I know lure weights aren't gospel, but this looks a little heavy

Didn't get any really good photos of this rod, but followed your advice and went with the Minima guides. Here are some pictures with the fish we caught in the tournament.

Good morning! I'm working on a rod that is a little out of my area. Tried using the KR GPS tool but I can't select the weight of braid I need to give me the larger guide layout (It will allow for 15-20 which gives me the 20H, 10H, and 5.5M layout). Here are the specs: 7'3 Medium Fast blank Total length: 87" Tip of spool axle: 12" Reel size: 5000 (It's a Shimano Stradic Ci4+ 4

I started out using denatured alcohol on paper towels, but those were a lint nightmare. Switched to Scott Shop Towels, and those are ok as long as I'm not working with Winn grips. Most of what I've been working with lately is Winn grips, so I'm looking for a better solution. Anyone have a more lint free product for wiping away excess epoxy?

Thanks guys. Couple more questions. After a little further research, I see that most of the people recommending the 16-10-runners layout were talking about LV or SV guides. The KL 16 is the same height as both the LV and SV 16s, but they don't make a 10. The KW guides I was planning on using are shorter, so I'm not sure if I should go to a 20-12-runners layout. So now I'm considering these

Looks like 20 is too high (based on some other posts I'm reading from here), so I'm thinking 16, 10, then running guides to the tip.

Found this chart from St. Croix. I've never really used the guide charts for baitcasters or spinning rods, so I'm not sure if it's a good starting point. Also not sure what kind of guides they're recommending, but for a 9' Heavy Freshwater or Salt rod they recommend the following. Inches from tip 4.5-9.5-15.5-21.625-28.875-36.5-44.75-53.25-64-76 Guides 20-16-12-6-6-6-5-5-5-5
