You talking about the fighting butt split grip? I find the butt diameter, pick the closest-without-going-over Flexcoat pilot drill bit that I have to get the hold drilled half way, then follow up with the same size regular drill bit to finish the hole. I run the drill in reverse so it doesn't tear it up so bad. Then, I chamfer the grip edge just a little, put a very small amount of rubber

I'm looking at building one of these new Get Bit 12' Speckled Perch-Crappie Blanks into a rear reel seat rod, but I've got questions lol. The blank is 0.667" at the butt so I'm going to use a size 18 spinning seat. I believe I want to put a full wells grip in front of that. I will put either a small spinning reel or a B'n'M Buck’s Best Ultra Lite Crappie Reel 2, either way I'll use 10

Looking for a cap or plug that will fit in the Fuji DPSM seat. Want to use the seat all the way at the rear on a jigging rod.

Dang, their SC III Inshore blanks were some of my favorite. For those in the know, are the Carbon 2 and Carbon 4 similar to the St. Croix SC II and IV or is it the Bass 2 and 4?

I'm going to line out the scenario, and I'm looking for recommendations around a fly outfit based around it. The whole shebang, blank, components, reel, line, etc. This outfit would be mostly for white perch and bream, or whatever you would like to call them. Panfish. My primary use places would be: *I have a very nice 400 acre "pond" stocked with bluegill that opened near my

I'm assuming, based off of that, I would want to crank left handed.

Thank you all for your help! I believe I'm going to go with the Eternity. I can get a much better deal than the St. Croix, and from what I'm seeing here people like it for this application. On the reel, that Orvis Hydros SL IV looks really good. Last question for now. I'm right handed. When a reel is right handed, does that mean right hand retrieve or right hand reel, and which of thos

Let’s start with the caster. He knows zero about casting a fly rod, but wants to build this rod and take lessons with it. Let of a long term plan to start fly fishing. Also, the caster is me if that wasn’t clear. The rod. From trolling the local fishing forums for about a year, the consesus I’ve gathered is that I want a 9’ 8 weight rod. Line/leader. The plan is to go to the FTU in Houston

I haven't built that fly rod I was asking about several months ago, but I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger. Wanted some opinions on these blanks from anyone that's used them. I'm open to other suggestions as well, but I'm considering these for right now. This would be mainly for redfish on the upper Texas coast. Rainshadow Eternity ETEF908-4CB St. Croix SCV 5FS908.4

Just realized the 9' Rainshadow I listed, REVSU90M-2DB, is a two piece. The 8', REVSU80M-DB, is one piece and looks like it would suit you well. The Phenix looks good too. The MHX is only rated to 2.5 oz, so you would have to talk to someone who has used it. I don't see any moderate or moderate fast 9' 1 piece blanks. Maybe someone else has a recommendation.

Sorry, I meant what type of lure is a plug. Google says it's a regional term, so what I would call a crankbait. If that's the case, you probably want a Moderate or Moderate Fast action. Here are some blanks I found that might work: Revelation Rainshaodw REVSU80M-DB or REVSU90M-2DB, MHX CB968-MHX, and Phenix MX-UR80MH-B. If he wants a fast action rod, then you have a ton of options.

I use Fuji KT 4s when I don't have to pass a knot, 4.5s if they're using something like an FG knot, and 5s for everything else. Pac Bay still makes size 3 runners. I put them on an ultralight spinning rod the other day and am happy with the way it turned out.

We are still on the blank search, so I'm thinking about the guides now. The plan is to use a Diawa Lexa 300 or a Shimano Tranx 300. What guide trains are you guys using to build these 9' rods?

Thanks guys. I'm doing the Forhan "Revolver" spiral. I normally do a KW 10, KW 5.5, then a KB 4 to 4 runners. Should I use a different guide train for this? After looking at this several more times, I can't get the static load to work with less than 9 guides. I get too extreme of an angle between the forward running guides. I think it's just a lighter rod than I'm used to wor

For the longest time, I've used figured out where I wanted my stripper guide and my first guide from the tip, then used a spreadsheet that gives you a percentage increase between each guide. I would tape on the number of guides I thought it would take, then do a static load test. If I didn't like the line lay, I would throw in another guide, re-space and tape, and try again. I'm building my
