I think Robert is talking about gorilla glue epoxy, not the original expanding wood glue. It is a 5 min epoxy and I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work just fine for reel seats. Norm

I like a hair dryer to soften the epoxy somewhat for easier removal. I don’t use a heat gun, just gets too hot, and I have caused the tip section on a rod to just fold over; not good! I figure if a hair dryer doesn’t harm your hair by catching it on fire, then it won’t damage your blank, but still be careful. Norm

I Thought so, that’s the reason I asked. Shame you are not here in Mississippi I would do it for you free. Maybe there is someone here from Orange County that can help. If you are interested I could put a small kit together and send it to you, just click on my name to get my email address. Norm

Jeremy, have you ever wrapped a rod before? If not, then trying to duplicate the guide wrap shown in your picture will take some knowledge on how to perform that wrap. It’s not that hard to do but you will need to know how to do it. If you are planning on trying to build your own rods, then stripping down the rod you have and rewrapping it will be good practice. However, if you just want to repl

For the most part silver metallic is silver metallic, and black is black from all manufacturers. Those are two colors that do not vary much at all, so any manufacturer will be fine. I have not found a brand of thread that wraps any better or worse than any other. Most people pick a brand based on the colors they offer. Norm

Size is not that important, just match the color. Going to be difficult to get a size because of the epoxy penetration, making the thread appear thick and wiry. In most cases the metallic silver trim will be size A. For he black size A, B, or D will look fine. The size B and D are easier to wrap, especially for a beginner. Norm

I have never tried applying Permagloss directly over NoCP thread or regular thread coated with CP. Permagloss does soak into regular thread and because it is so thin requires multiple coats to get the proper build depth. However, CP treated thread or NoCP thread prevent epoxy finish from penetrating the thread, thus no color change. In your case, CP coated thread or NoCP thread may also prevent

Your drop shot rod is a very light powered rod and will perform very nicely with a KR concept set up. You have to remember, It’s not the size of the ring but rather height of the guide that is important. The KLH guides feature a high frame and small ring design. This design helps to choke and control the line much better.and faster than the more traditional lower framed and larger ringed guides,

Use an ice rod blank. Here’s an example. Chold also use the replacement tip section for some B ‘n’ M telescoping jig poles, need to call them. Norm

If you want a two piece rod leave it as it is, if you want a one piece rod then do as Dennis suggests and send it back. The tip over butt ferrule is an excellent design and works very well. With use the ferrule over lap will gradually wear and the over lap will become greater without the ferrule becoming loose. If you wrap the area immediately below the over lap then the ferrule will become loo

Ron, being on the next page I missed your post, and so did a lot of other people. To answer your question, the choke guide will be the KL5.5L. I like to progressively space the other two reduction guides between the stripper and choke guides, and then progressively space the other runners between the choke and tip top. If I don’t get a nice progressive spacing that looks good you can push the c

What type and size line will everyone most likely be using and how long will the rods be? I am assuming with ML spin rods the reel size may vary from 1000 to 3000, and will be filled with either light braid or light mono. For braid up to 15# or mono up to 8# with all of these reel sizes, on a 7' rod you could certainly use a reduction train of KL16H, KL8H, and KL5.5M with KB/KT runners of your c

CCS stands for Common cents system. IP means intrinsic power, it is the amount of weight required to bend a rod 1/3 its total length, and give a relative value for the rod’s power. It gives one a way to compare various blanks to each other, and it’s fairly easy to do IP measures you just have to make sure the butt end of blank is secured firmly to get a good measurement. You can read all about th

David - The NFC SJ762HM has a published IP= 462gm, the NFC SJ762IM has an IP=400, neither the HM and IM models have 7’3” SJ. I ordered and received a NFC MB736 X-ray but I think it’s a SJ736 based on it butt diameter (0.58” vs O.49”), so I think they sent me the wrong blank. It’s IP = 647gm, my measurement. Based on these numbers I think the X-ray SJ732 with be somewhere in the 450gm range +

I think Herb was talking about the Winn grip rod overwrap. It is very light, I had a friend use it and he liked it a lot. Makes nice tacky non slip grip even when wet. Shrink tape will also work as will cork tape. With all of these, when they have seen their last days, they are easy to replace. I really like the Fuji K guides. You can get then in a corrosion control frame, that really hold up in

David - just for comparison purposes, your NFC DS6107-1 has a published IP = 316 gm. No wonder you you thought it was lacking in backbone, it is a very light powered rod. Some of my crappie rods are more powerful. Norm

That’s one of the great things about rod building, everyone has different likes, and dislikes based on tastes and perceptions; and everyone is entitled to their opinions. I find the PBs one of the most sensitive rods I fish, and that’s my opinion. I’m also not trying to start anything. As some of you may know, over the past few years I have made up and used various blanks from almost all of th

Just measured the CCS IP for both the PB691MLXF (IP=522 gm, my measurement, listed IP= 512gm), the Eternity ETES68M (IP= 415 gm, my measurement). Did the measurements as made up as spin rods for both. The PB691MLXF blank is listed to weigh 1.58 oz and the ETES 68M is listed as 1.3 oz. The PB ML is more powerful than the Eternity M by a fair amount. However the Eternity is a little lighter.. B

David, you might be interested to know that Al Jackson designed both the Point Blank and the NFC X-ray. They are both scrimless high modulus high-end blanks made using a simiar technique and materials. The X-ray blanks have a much rougher surface because they are not sanded, which saves money for NFC. But otherwise they are very similar. When I got my first X-ray blank, I thought it seemed very s

I understand what you are saying. Basically you work with the distance that is remaining, i.e., from the front of the reel to the tip to try to futher maximize performance. A handle that fits you is a part of maximising the overall performance of the rod. Norm

Norman Miller
Handle length is completely dependent on what you like, it is a personal decision. Some people like a longer handle for two handed casting, some like a short handle if they are one handed casters or feel that the handle gets in their way. Some like a handle that is long enough to tuck under their forearm or poke in their gut when fighting a fish. For most people a handle from 8 to 11 inches would

I have the PB691MXF made up as a spin rod. Fantastic rod, very sensitive, weighs just 1.76 oz and has an IP of 603 gm. Has a very fast tip with a lot of back bone. It is not your typical M powered blank, it is more powerful than most, and will easily cast a broader range of lures than listed. Fantastic with both jigs and topwater soft plastic jerk baits. In fact it is a very good all around rod.

I agree with Donald. The Point Blanks make exceptional rods, they are very light, sensitive, fast, and very powerful. The PB701MLF and the PB731MLF only weigh 1.76 oz each, yet have Intrinsic powers of 570 gm and 599 gm, respectively. Norm

Marbling pigments or pigments from testors enamels. I have used PG and pigments on small scale projects but not to color a blank. Worked well. Norm
