My order has been shipped, so they are working to fill orders. Not sure if it true or not, but I heard that the state of Washington taxes inventory. So it possible that NFC is making just enough blanks to fill current orders without acquiring a large inventory for future orders. This could help explain delays in shipping, plus they are a relatively small company. Norm

You should be able to use a spinning rod blank for what you want. You just need to match the Intrinsic power (IP) and ERN of your fly rod with that of the spin blank. Measuring your rod is quite easy, just follow the common cents system given at the top of the left hand column here. Getting common cents info on a potential blank before you buy it is more difficult since most Rod /Blank manufactu

The NCP threads are treated with a substance that does not allow the epoxy to penetrate the thread fibers so the color is maintained. CP coats the threads and when dry does not let the epoxy penetrate, hence maintaining the original color. In my opinion, NCP thread has a lack of luster and gives a flat looking color. The color using CP has more luster to it and looks richer and deeper. Norm

I have noticed that the tip sizes given for NFC blanks are not alway accurate. I had two NFC HM blanks of the same model and they each had a different actual tip size, one was a whole size larger than the other. I am sure there is some blank to blank variability, so maybe they give an average for tip size. Norm

That’s the same telephone # I have, it works much better than their toll free #. I received a call from that # a few months ago about an order. Still waiting for the order to be shipped. Norm

I don’t have this rod, but a tip of 1.66 mm is about a size 4.5 in 64ths. For a light powered rod it’s noI out of range. I agree getting in touch with an NFC employee is next to impossible. Norm

All NFC blanks I have ordered came with a blank decal, giving blank model and specs. If you want one contact NFC I sure they will send you the one you need. Norm

Don, NFC still has it's 65% off sale. They have three models in their Delta series, that would work for you. SW764-1 Delta, SW765-1 Delta, or MB795-1 Delta. At 65% off and free shipping they are around $40 ea. Great deal on high quality Blanks. Norm

I agree with Tom, a little pigment mixed into Permagloss will give a nice translucent finish, that is hard and durable. Experiment on an broken piece of white blank to see if it’s what you want. Norm

Seth, I also don’t like non progressive spacing, I like to progressively increase the distance between guides. I also don’t like using fractions of inches, so I use the metric system for spacing guides, much easier to work with, and easier on your brain. I got my metric/English tape measure at Northern Tool. For a nine guide layout you could use the following spacing for your rod starting at t

When I refinish a rod I strip the rod completely down with just the handle and reel seat remaining. If the blank is painted and the paint has chipped off in places, I will scape all the paint off using a utility knife held perpendicular to the the surface. It is not that difficult to do, it is easier than you think, and doesn’t take that long. I then wet sand the blank with 800 to 2000 grit wet/d

Fuji ACS reel seat. a very nice seat. Get it slightly smaller then the blank diameter where you want it, then ream it to fit. Norm

If you want a threadless reel seat then use a hidden thread hood, like the Fuji KDPS or HPS or SK2 (KSKSS) hidden thread hoods. These hoods will fit almost all size 16 or 17 reel seats. You can use a cork, EVA, cabon fiber, wood, acrylic or almost anything you wish for the sleeve. This sleeve will be your fore grip or rear grip depending whether you want your reel seat up locking or down locking.

I like the PacBay Minima casting reel seat, but dislike their spinning reel seat. It really feels strange when gripping the reel, and this is especially true with a small diameter blank. The seat becomes more tolerable with larger diameter blanks, but still not a good hand feel. As far as weight is concerned the Minima reel seat actually weighs more that the standard size16 Fuji DPSM reel seat, a

Pit Paste also works well, just like the Elmer's wood filler it sands nicely. My only minor problem with it is it does shrink a little more than the Elmer's wood filler, and seems to pop out a little easier. Norm

I don't know what size or model of Fuji runners you purchased. I almost exclusively use the Fuji KB/KT down to size 4 and they work great. I have done a few rods spiral wrapped using these guides for friends and they love them. Like David I personally prefer size 4.5 runners. I always do a locking wrap on single ft guides just for the added insurance, but I really don't think it is necessary with

I agree with Roger, Elmer's Golden Oak wood filler. I put on a pair of nitrile gloves and rub it into the pits. It sands very nicely, and is rated for exterior use, so is water resistant. Can also make a paste using cork dust and exterior Titebond wood glue. Stays in place very well but requires a little more sanding. After sanding I apply a cork seal, to make sure everything stays in place. No

Too much heat can cause problems. If you use a torch, just very quickly flash torch it to remove bubbles, less than a second. To much heat can cause the lumpy bumpy look you mentioned. All finish epoxies are self leveling and don’t need heat for leveling. A 9 or 11 rpm drying motor is just fine. One of my motors is about 4.5 RPMs I have others around 9 and another around 20, and they work just

I thought the B and G designations indicated color, blue vs green, and has nothing to do with power. The S vs C designations would indicate a change in intrinsic power ratings for blanks showing same length, power and action designations. I also think the 6’8” models are XF vs F, and this can have an effect on lure range and overall power. Not having measured or used a 5C68MXF I have no idea h

I do not have specific casting weight or intrinsic power information on the new SC 5C68MF. I have directly compared the older SC 5S70MF with the SC 5S66MF, in my opinion both have have a very broad casting range, which extends above and below their listed casting range. I have found this to be true of most HM rods I have tried. When comparing their intrinsic power by CCS, my 5S66MF is slightly

Lance, I think you are mistaken. I have a balance beam scale in my shop and I have demonstrated many times that a 9 guide set of Minima guides, consisting of 20M, 10M, 5M, and six 4w Fs, is approximately the same weight as a single KL20H guide. The entire 9 guide set of stainless minimas weighs approximately 4.3 gms, and entire set of the Titanium TiBlack Minimas weighs about 3 gm, and an entire

The foot of the size 5 Minimas are narrower than the size 4 which has a wider foot to help prevent pullout. If the tip section of the rod is very small you can file the foot down a little. Because of the the hard chrome insert the size 4 runners have an ID that is about the same as a size 5 ceramic runner, or crramic tip top. I mostly use the size 4 runners, but that is just my preference. Size

The reduction train would be 20M, 10M, and 5M (or 6M) to F runners in a size of your choice. The PacBay M guides are very close in height to Fuji KL-H guides, so you can use the KR GPS at Anglers Resource to set up your guide train. I would use about 10-12 guides total, not counting the tip top. Norm

The Minima running guides will hold up just fine to braid. Braid is all I use and I have had no problems. I have recently started using a ceramic tiptops, because grooving it is basically restricted to the tiptop. Ceramic tip tops will last for many many years of hard fishing without grooving Norm

I built a high end Bass rod for A tournament fisherman friend of mine and used KR concept guides. He liked the rod so much he brought me a bunch of his GLoomis NRX and GLX Rods to replace their guide trains with KR concept guides. He could not believe how well the KR concept guides performed, and was especially pleased with the two spinning rods I refurbished as KR concept rods. In my opinion,

Herb, I did say 25 KL-H by using the term KL25H, means exactly the same thing. It is still a KR set up even though the stripper is pushed farther out, you are still using high frame small ring guides for the reduction train and small low profile guides as runners, and you are doing a rapid choke. What I was trying to do was to give a little extra insight into how one would start to set up a surf
