Thinking X-Raps and Mirrodines for sea trout & flounder. Is this blank new? I just noticed it.

In the 68mxf, are these going to be pretty comparable blanks, just one by St. Croix and the other by Rainshadow?

The REC reel seats don't seem to list the OD for the hood. What size cutout do you need in the grip?

On a 5wt I was thinking size 12 stripper going down to size 1 snakes. If I want to keep the weight down to keep efficiency up, two questions: 1 - can I use lite wire guides on a 5wt; and 2 - is there an advantage to a large-loop lite wire tip? Thx.

I have introduced my son to the addiction and he goes to college near several trout rivers with Browns, Rainbows and some Brookies. He is looking at one of the Rainshadow Eternity2 blanks in a 5wt. He has wondered if he should build a 6wt. The fish are usually not more than 12 to 14 inches, but there might the occasional big holdover fish (most are the stocked stuff). We are in upstate SC so not

Would this make a very fast 6wt, or would it just be a dumb idea?

What's "T/G"? I think I understand what "sustained anchor" is. And I meant Revelation, not Eternity. Getting my biblical analogies mixed up.

How close are these two in color? If I have a SG winding check close to a TiCh hook keep, will they clash?

Just to keep it apples-to-apples, how would you compare these options in a 5wt? It seems the Rainshadow and MHX can be picked up as a kit for similar prices.

I am thinking about building a switch rod on either the Immortal 6wt or Revelation 5wt. I read that somebody said these rods rate differently than other manufacturers. When I look at the weight window on the 5wt, it looks to me like the 4wt Rio lines would best fit in that window. I have never even touched a switch rod but it looks like something fun for a change. I fish smaller waters where a 20

Can I use the Batson High End 12" Spey Grip with an A7 reel seat? I don't like the double-grip look of the switch rod grip. I prefer the "long full wells" look of the spey grip. The difference in length would only be 1/4 inch.

Thanks Jim. I was thinking about the 12 to make the rod pack into a smaller tube, but the 16 is probably a safer bet. Will probably always use it with 4lb mono or 10lb (or less) braid. I was wondering if I might get away with 12-5.5-4s instead of 16-8-5.5-4s.

If I'm going to use the smallest size Shimano - I believe it is a 500 or 750 - can I start with a KL-H guide smaller than a 16? Like a 12 or 10, then 5.5 and size 4 running guides?

Comparisons anybody? I would build either as a micro spinning rod for trout, panfish, smallmouth & smaller largemouth. Would love opinions on both.

Can't find much about this blank. I have a St. Croix 5S66MLF - how would it compare to what I have? Also, 0.8 oz looks crazy light for a rod rated 4-10lbs - is that right?

Does anybody know which Rainshadow blanks have carbon scrim? Am I correct that the Eternity2 and Immortal have it, but not the RX8 steelhead blanks?

I would use it to both apply finish and let cure. I assume it's easier to apply at 18? But does it cure better at 9? Opinions please.

Jim, Thanks for the patience on these questions. Just to make sure I'm clear, if I use option 2 I am taking a different direction than GPS. According to GPS - using my measurements of A = 81.5, B = 74 and C =104 - I have a choke point of 40" before I select a guide style. When I select the KL-H frame, it moves the choke point back to 32" and puts the KL-H 16 at 15.5". A 12

Okay, I've measured reels, gotten measurements from others, plugs the numbers, read the post, etc. It seems I have two possible forks in the road. 1 - If I use the GPS, I will need to go to a lower and/or smaller ringed guide to get in the 18 to 22 inch zone. A KL-H 16 still shows too close. 2 - Put the KL-H 16 at 18 to 20 inches, put the choke guide at .45 x distance from stripper to tip,

For a Shimano Stradic CI4 2500, GPS puts the choke point at 27 inches and the stripper at 11.5 for a size 20 or 13.7 for a 16 when using the KL-H guides. How can this be correct? If the stripper should ordinarily be around 18-22 inches, do I go with lower guides like the KL, a smaller ring further out (which might even mean a 2-guide reduction train) or just go ahead and have a 20 or a 16 real

Thanks Jim. That's what I assumed, but didn't want to make an order only to need to make another one later. I'm the occasional hobby builder for personal use so I don't stock a lot of guides. I pretty much order what I need. In a previous post you mentioned something written up in a catalogue in RM magazine. I don't currently get RM. Is there some place I can get that info? Or can you te

I understand the value of the KB guides for the first few running, but is there any advantage to KT over L guides? The later looks a tiny bit lighter, but I'm wondering if the KT sheds wind knot wraps better. Amazing how much I'm having to catch up after not building for a couple of years!
