So how many you reckon will be at the rod builders reception? Are we going to be a little enclave in the midst of, as a friend of mine put it, a bunch of pretty boy fly fishermen. Don't get me wrong - I fly fish, wear bow ties and hold my wife's purse in public - but nobody has ever called me pretty.

What is the practical limit to how much drag you can get on, for example, an ABU 6500. Can you ever get more than 5 or 6 lbs on most reels? BTW, I replaced my ABU factory washers w/ smooothies and love them, but I still don't think I could get 10lbs of drags. I probably should stay with 15# for my surf fishing and be happy to get 5#.

Does anybody have the weight of the blanks in the Sig V and FT series of blanks?

I have an old Fenwick HMG graphite casting rod from around 1980. It is a GFC556, 5'5", 6power rated 12-25lb line, 3/8-???oz lure (the upper range is rubbed out) says 1 3/8 oz shaft. It has a serial number (I assume that's what it is) of P363943. I caught my biggest largemouth (6+ lbs) on this rod in a farm pond when I was in college. Any ideas how this rod would compare to things today a

Leather bound book - now that sounds interesting. Tom and others who have written books, don't be offended by my dilemma - ya'll just have no idea the degree of style and eye for detail I'm up against.

Off topic, but I imagine there are a bunch of us whose wives do a great job of decorating the house. In fact, I never go in one that I think is done better than the way my wife has done ours - comfortable and aesthetic. However, everything looks so good - including the Southern Livingish books scattered all over the place - that my wife won't leave any of my Lefty Kreh, Tom Kirkman, etc. lying

So are Dan Craft ferruls similar to Gatti? I have heard that Gatti requires a good reinforcement wrap too.

Can you tell us more specifically what you mean by "American made" blanks? I also hope you are bringing lots of those grips and turning stock or there may be some boxing out that has to go on under the basket.

So if you're working out of the house and running a small shop, and if I'm out of line with this question just tell me "It's proprietary", are you actually rolling your own blanks or do you source that out? I'm not asking for details, I'm just curious how a small business manages to stay solvent producing a high-end product.

It seems that the modulus of Dan Craft blanks rivals that of high end Sage and Loomis blanks. How can the Sig V and FT be so affordable? I've heard people say that you largely get what you pay for, but everbody on this forum seems to rave about Dan Craft rods. How does he do it?

I have kids around that age and have been looking at some of the new Forecast blanks. Seem to be great for the money. You can even get a 6-12lb 6'6" in 3-piece, which might be nice for those family outings where you have to carry it in. One question, are you sure you want to go spinning rather than spin-cast? The last time I took a 7 year old out with a spinning reel, we had problems wit

Got mine promptly after asking. They look great and I was particularly glad to see the weight of the blanks listed. Also very informative info on what makes up the different blanks (RX8+, RX7+, etc.). Personally, I like to have the prices next to the rest of the info in the main catalogue, but I can understand the reasons for having separate sheets that can be updated regularly. Both catalogu

I was just looking at the tip size, butt size and weight. BTW, I hope I have not asked an obnoxious question. Based upon my limited experience, I would still buy the Rainshadow even if St Croix made it just based upon the response I have gotten from Rainshadow in the past and the one blank I have bought from them. I am sure they are both great blanks and understand in the world today that peop

I just got the new Rainshadow blank catalogue and the specifications are identical to St Croix in the models mentioned above. The fact that there are no volume pricing discounts for the RX8+ and 7+ also make me think they are buying them from someone else. Does anybody know, or is the information "proprietary"?

A guy gave me some walnut blocks (high grade wood but not "stabilized"). What do you use to treat the wood to make it suitable for a seat? Anything I can get at Home Depot?

Am I correct in assuming that it would have a sweet spot around 1oz? Would a fly blank just snap if you put 1-1/2oz on and swung hard?

Any unique ideas for something to go between the graphite skeleton components. Something unique and not too expensive is what I had in mind.

I was going to suggest the same as the previous post. I also built on the AllStar titanium line of travel blanks last year - 7' 8-17lb (Christmas present) and am impressed but I don't think they go as light as you are looking for.

I was wondering in a 9' 5wt how the two blanks compare in action and power when you add an extra section.

I notice that some of those reel seats listed as Amtak in the new Mudhole catalogue seem awfully identical to what used to be Pac Bay.

What kind of insert would you use if you were going to use the Fuji Quik Lock to build a fighting butt on the back? Also, is the Quik Lock removable, that is can you screw it all the way off, to store the rod in the tube?
