211. loose wrap
I put a four-axis chevron wrap directly on a blank. I wrapped each thread pretty tight and double secured it on each end by going over 2x sided tape and anchoring the tag in traditional manner with masking tape. I've done this wrap before but experienced a new problem. First, as I continued putting down successive threads, the initial threads became loose. Second, At some point in the wrappin

One of the methods I use is to secure one end of my tag thread with about 8 or 10 turns of my main wrap, then with about 5 turns left, I wrap in a tie off separate tie off loops. When the main wrap is complete I finish it off as usual with the first tie off loop. Then I complete the tag and complete it with the second tie off loop. It can be a little cumbersome to work with and around but it h

213. Re: Claims
Thanks everyone for the advice. My biggest lies in the fact that rod was a gift for a family member, thusly, no invoice. I think I'll include an invoice in future shipments, even if it is a gift. This should tackle the problem.

214. Claims
Recently shipped a new fly rod in the same tube I received my Rod Geeks blanks in. Theirs arrived to my house just fine. The fly rod I sent arrived cleanly broken across both pieces. When trying to file a claim with USPS, they want proof of current value. I included my invoice from my parts supplier but this does not accurately reflect the cost of the finished product. Has anybody else had t

What are some of the better water-based urethanes? The one I have now is too hot for Plasti Kote.

218. Rod paint
Put Plastikote white on an old solid glass rod on a redo for a friend. I tried to put urethane over the paint but it started to dissolve and looks awful. I've got to sand the blank again and repaint. What did I do wrong with the urethane and what do I have to do right this time?

219. Re: Finish
I've made the same mistake, putting on too much finish with the same RPM you are using. Problem solved when I used less finish. Darn the learning curve.

220. Retro blank
A family member wants me to build them a retro-looking rod that will hold the Penn 155 Beachmaster. He is looking for something along the old Fenwick brown or yellow type, but open to ideas. He plans on using 20lbs test and wants it 7' with a medium or slow action. Any suggestions?

224. Wooden handle
I'm refinishing a heavy offshore rod for a friend and have to strip the paint off the wooden handles. What is the best way to repaint the handles; including priming, painting, and any protective coating?

225. Closed wrap layout
I'm trying my first closed wrap and am unsure of my layout. I've tried figuring the offset layout per Clemens but have no idea how to get the 90/270 numbers correct. My measurements are; butt end circumfrence is 40.5mm with five planned patterns, making a total distance of 202.5. My taper at the 202.5 is 36.20 mm. I've heard one method is to average the two circumfrences and make that my spac

I've heard that it's possible to use embrodiery thread to wrap rods. Is this a good idea? And, if so, are there any special conditions that accompany it's use?

Is there a good commercial spray paint for renovating an old blank. I know Faskolor will work with permagloss but an not currently set up for that. Hoping there is a commercial product that will work with permagloss.

I'm looking for instructions for a guide wrap. The wrap is standard except that two single threads are used to make an intersecting diamond/s atop the base wrap. Is there a video out there that I can follow?
Thanks.

231. bubbles, ugh!
Can someone please tell me why bubbles appear in my Pro Kote at the same place over and over? I put heat on the finish and the bubble popps just like it is supposed to do. However after a few moments a bubble appears in the same spot. I went through this several times with the same frustrating results. What am I doing wrong?
