Hello, I've went through about 18 pages of lumiseal posts and I don't remember seeing anything about cleaning up lumiseal on unwanted places. This will be my first time using it over a decal on wood insert on a reelseat and want to be prepared if I accidentally get it on the aluminum components. Will alcohol work for cleaning? And one more question, can I apply it on with foam brush while rotatin

Thanks Phil. Also, would I need to apply color preserver first to prevent the decal from lifting before applying urethane? Thanks.

Phil, what kind or brand of urethane do you use? And I'm assuming applying it the same way as finish? Thanks.

When applying finish, do you only apply finish on where to decal is or would you apply finish on the all around the wood insert? I'd still like the wood insert to have its stabilized look. Thanks

Hello, has anyone tried putting decals on a reelseat? Specifically on the wood insert on a fly rod reelseat. I'm not sure how I would add finish to this..also does anyone do custom decals? Thanks.

Hi, so I put the first finishing coat on my fly rod and once dried I noticed some high finish build spots (drying motor stopped by accident). Not too hard to fix so I went ahead and cut off the excess finish to level it out. Problem is one of the spot is where I was planning to put a feather inlay. So my question is, if I put a feather and color preserver on the spot I cut off, which has that dul

Hello, I was wondering if anyone can tell me the difference between hotshot, spinjig and popping blanks? I'm a little confused on how each differs. Also any differences between spinning and casting blanks? Thanks.

Nate, I'm new to the rod building world but I have turned my own grips on the blanks and on threaded metal rods on my power wrapper so take my input with a grain of salt. I've noticed I get perfect centered grip when I turn my grips on the blank versus on a threaded metal rod. Perhaps I need better practice reaming the handles on a drill bit? But either way do what you're comfortable with. If

Thanks guys. Your thoughts on the recoil tip top? And size? Or should I chose a different tip top brand? Thanks

Thanks for the input guys! The 7wt batson is equivalent to a 5wt two hander (correct me if I'm wrong) ? If so, on my meiser 5 wt switch I have a size 12-10 stripper and works ok with my 3.5" Pflueger trion reel. I'm planning to purchase a 3.5" bougle for the rod. What are your thoughts on the guide size for that reel? Thanks

Hello, I am planning on building a rainshadow 1087-4 switch Rod and thinking of using recoils. Any thoughts on these guides for switch and spey rods? Thinking of using recs snake guides and Fugi ti sic strippers to reduce noise? Or go with all Rec recoils including tip top? Also, according to the batson guide spacing the guide sizes are 12,10,4,4,4,4,3,3,3,3 but after reading some past posts,

Thanks Roger!! I will definitely have to try that. I have a power wrapper that I can use to turn blanks. I guess I'll be doing a search on here on how to paint a blank next lol.

I have built on a mhx power noodle blank and like it but I was wondering if there were more sensitive noodle blanks out there? Thorne bros perhaps? I would like a blank that has a little more sensitive tip. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Ahh thanks Don! You prob wouldn't recommend these guides for cold water fishing would you? Because of ice build up on these smaller ID rings.

So the tidal wave set comes with seven 3.18mm OD running guides? On mudhole I see that they only sell 5mm running guides. How would I get more 3.18mm running guides for a 8'6-10ft rod?

Hello, how do you guys get the finish to taper from your winding check going towards the tip? I have a few inlays and I'm trying to get that tapering or cone shape effect but I keep getting a small indent between the winding check and then leveling out. I apply a little more finish next to the winding check but same thing. I'm assuming I'll have to tilt the rod up? Thanks.

Hello, I am putting feather inlays on the female ferrules on my 4pc fly rod but I have a few bumps on my first coat of finish. So I decided to trim those bumps with a blade and now I'm left with a few white spots. My question is can I go ahead and put my feather inlay on with color preserver before filling in those white spot with another coat of finish? Or will the color preserver preserve th

The bottom grip will be natural and rubberized cork so it shouldn't take much to sand it down. Thanks for the input guys. I have a power wrapper that I plan on using to turn the grip and it has 3 supports that I could use to support the blank.

Hey, stupid question but has anyone ever tried turning the bottom handle glued to the blank and with the tapered part of the blank in the chuck? So the male ferrule in the chuck instead of the typical butt section. I'm trying to find ways of turning the bottom handle without having to use a butt cap or cutting a plug to fill in the bored hole. I have a power wrapper so I could use some supports t

Not to hijack the thread but will counting the amount of drops of each two part finish be as good as using a syringe? I kind of ruined my syringe so I've been using there plastic pipeps to count each drop. My finish is finishing tacky still though. Perhaps I'm rushing the mixing part? I usually mix it slowly but only about a minute.

Hey, I tried calling batson enterprise and sending an email about this but didn't get a response yet so I thought I ask you guys. For the decal sticker that comes with the rainshadow blanks, do I need to use color preserver first before putting the finish on? Trying to get the rod finish before my trip on Thursday. Thanks!

Tom, would you by any chance specify the temperature in number of degrees? I believe a butane lighter heats up to about 450 F and that's hot enough to burn and ruin the finish? The reason I ask is because I'm wondering if I could set my heat gun to 250 degrees Fahrenheit and use that to speed up the curing process without damaging the finish or the blank itself. Thanks.

How warm/hot can you go before it affects the finish?
