Torzite Spinning and Casting Guide Sizes

Building a 7'2" spinning rod for a Daiwa 2500 reel (spool is 49 mm). I'll be throwing all mono or fluoro 6 - 8 lb test. Normally I'd start with a 25 regular height guide (TKLSG 25) for the stripper. So what size should I start with for a high frame Torzite guide(TKLTG-H), and what sizes for the reduction train? I'll use 4s for the running guides.

Also, since I don't use low profile baitcasters, what is the correct size Torzite stripper guide for a baitcasting setup (generic 7', fast action, medium to medium-heavy power)? I usually use a 10, but I think I should be able to drop to an 8 with Torzite.

Thanks in advance,

Glenn

A 7'2" loaded with 6-8lb mono will need a 16H, 8H, 5.5M KL-H reduction train whether TORZITE, SiC or Alconite. It's the height that you need. Stick with 4 runners as planned.

I just finished five experimental baitcasters with the new KR CONCEPT reverse stripper called an RV. It is very nice, It is offered in size 6 only but the design is high (comparaedble to the height of the KW10 originally suggested in the KR Concept) and it handles line every well while adding far less weight that the KW10. You might have trouble finding one, they just got here recently. Let your dealer know we have them and they should be able to get them real quick. TRVTG - Titanium TORZITE, TRVSG - Titanium SiC, TRVAG - Titanium Alconite

Sometime during the 80's Dale Clemens came to Austin, Texas for a seminar. There was a fellow there from Freeport, Texas displaying some of his casting rods on which he had reversed the butt guide. He claimed that he got a better cast that way. With reference to the RV guide, I guess that there is not much new. It just time for the new ideas to catch on.

The RV is based in part in the long standing success of Fuji's LC guide frame that has been reversed on (mostly) surf rods for many years. The RV has a sloping ring frame to match other K-Series guides and is tangle free. The way I understand it, the single frame leg below the ring reduces line slap (only one leg instead of two) making for a slightly smoother cast. Not sure that would translate into marked distance improvement. Let us know.

Glenn,

I just finished building for myself a drop shot casting reel rod and used a #6 Torzite Butt Guide. It casts beautifully using 6 lb Fluorocarbon. I just mic-ed the opening, (inside ring dia.), and the opening on the #6 Torzite Ring measured 4.80 mm compared to the opening on the following Alconite Rings: #6 = 3.98 mm, #7 = 4.70 mm & #8 = 5.50 mm. I didn't have any SIC Guides to compare the opening size to the Torzite Guides; but I am sure the opening size on the SIC for a comparable size guide would be substantially smaller, since the SIC Rings are much thicker than the Torzite Rings.

From my experience, I would not be concerned with even using a #6 choker guide on the rod. All though I doubt there is much weigh difference between the #6 & #8 Torzite Guides.

The RV is a neat looking little guide.

Hey Jim, do you have an email I can contact you with? I have a few questions about kr guides and the concept. Don't want to hijack thread or start a new thread...thanks!

I always read that the two ring supports were to keep the line from knotting around the guide

Now it is Reversed ?????

So I guess all the knotting stuff went out the window ???
