Thanks for the help I to use bright thread on custom rods. I was replacing a tip on a rod that had no tip wrap that is why I asked .

no strip heater are used in outdoor electrical gear to keep it dry Mcmaster Carr sells them .I would not use heat tape I know of problems with it and fires

I have my running right now in the tent I bought from mud hole they are only 50 watts will only raise temp a little above ambient . a 100 watt or 2 drop lights might heat for you. what is the temp in the area that you will have the box?

You could try drilling some holes in the reel seat and take a syringe with two part epoxy glue and inject that in Is this a factory rod or custom if it's a factory rod the arbor under the reel seat could be junk

I put a piece of glue inside of the tip and heat the tip put it on out of place and turn it into position spray with water to cool just make sure you have tip glue and not foot glue. have not had problems with any tip sizes

Steve there is a formula where you take the butt dia - tip dia and blank length to come up with the taper of the blank pre inch then add up your handle length to find out the place where your winding check will go and what size you will need. I hope this helps it should get you close I think I read it in a rod maker issue.

try to cut around it in a spiral with a hack saw the way you cut a metal reel seat to get it off the blank and then heat

the tube might not be bent some that I have worked on have had two tubes that were joined under the reel seat I put a dowel inside the tube at the reel to keep it straight

I got some tips where there is a tube with female threads that goes on the blank and a tip that goes over with a screw that hold it to the other piece .is there a name for this type and what were they used for.

The story I got is the maker of classic coat was the maker for affcote .I ordered affcote from my suppler and was shipped classic coat it is the same .mixes well takes a long time to set up.

I mark the resin bottle and syringe with color tape so there is no mix up I load both syringes and shoot them in cup at same time to help mix and no mistakes.

I just put new guides on a old calstar GF-800-m I ran out of thread with 3 of the nine underwraps to go I started with a 100yd spool of metallic size A thread the rod had 9 guides plus 2 bands at the butt wrap. had to order more thread still got it done before owner went to keys fishing hope that helps

I have a stick down tape on my work table made by the starrett co they make measuring equipment . You have to watch what you use to measure two guys near me got fined by the game wardens for under size fish they told the wardens that they measured the fish on their cooler the warden said " igloo makes coolers not rulers"
