Is there any reason to add a thread wrap at the tip top is it for looks or strength do you need it ?

mostly for looks doesn't add strength does add a couple of Grains of weight the key word is grains not really noticeable or affecting the rod feel/action or power.
It is NOT needed

The tip wrap makes the rod look "Finished".

If you don't wrap the tip, the job will always look unfinished, no amount of, "It don't matter", is going to change that."

Depending on the rod, I will sometimes do a tip wrap in silver, gold, or neon orange, or neon green.

In each case, the reason for the wrap is to increase the visibility of the tip - for the times that one watches the rod tip for a bite.

Obviously, this does not apply for a lot of rods and fishing technique, but for other type of rods and applications it is next to mandatory.

Ice fishing rods which are often used in rather dark shelter houses is one of the rods that are nearly mandatory for a bright bright tip wrap.

Agree with John here, a rod without a tip wrap looks to be "unfinished". I also like doing it as I think the epoxy added also helps prevent the tip from from moving out of place.

I'm with Roger 100% here. If I do, I only wrap up to the tip and not over the tube. This eases tip replacement should it be needed.

Thanks for the help I to use bright thread on custom rods. I was replacing a tip on a rod that had no tip wrap that is why I asked .

I'd be highly surprised if that tip wrap weighed over a half grain on even a fairly heavy blank . No way on earth that could matter physically, but it sticks out like a sore thumb cosmetically.
