Aftcote replacement and questions

I haven't been on this board or built any rods in quite a while. Just kind of burned out on it I guess! Looking to transition back into building some as I miss it! This board was always a fantastic source of help and guidance for me when I was active....thanks too many of you here, as I recognize some of the same names still here that were a big help to me!

I remember reading lots here when I was having finishing problems. I ended up coming up with a repeatable system that worked well for me. I was using Aftcote at the time but I understand and that is no longer available. I also read here and that Classic Coat may be a direct replacement for Aftcote? As you can imagine due to my absence I have not experimented with any of the newer finishes. Any experiences or advice relative to the above? For context, I am primarily building surf fishing rigs for myself, family, and close friends. Also I have some Aftcote that is unused, probably 8 yrs old. Does it have a shelflife per se?

The story as I got it is that BD Ent. makers of Classic Coat were making Aftcote. Whether or not their Classic Coat is the exact same product I cannot say. Guess you will have to buy a small kit and try it. I would think you would know pretty quickly by how it mixes and handles if it is the same product or not.

I read up a little and I think I was mistaken: II think the Pro-Flex is the one described as "formerly Aftcote".

Good Morning,

Scott Hunt is correct. Pro-Flex is the exact formula relabeled as the former Aftcote. Classic coat is made by the same manufacturer but it is not the same formula.
Here is a link to both of them on our site. Aftcote was an industry favorite, super glad that the formula hasn't changed, just the label.
