I would put tips on both blanks, compare them and go from there. They won't be the same, but it might not be a big deal. What do you stand to lose?

Let me just say this: last year I bought an SC5 7-6 MLXF unfinished and beside from being just plain ugly ugly it had 2 direction changes on the way to the tip. Paid $218 for it, far, far more than I'd ever spent for a blank. Made in USA Figured if it's good enough for St. Croix it must be good enough for us. Fishes great. Getting the guides lined was a real trip. Let's see, where was I going wi

I have blocks of wood with holes bored thru them. The seat is inserted with the amount if threads to be removed protruding from the other face of the block, the block is placed in a vise, I cut down along this face of the block with a hacksaw blade. Clean up with sandpaper.

If 3 look great, take a few pics of the problem areas on the 4th and send them to the blank supplier. They should be of help. If you tell us what kind of blanks they are maybe some of the guys here will have had experience with them and may know what is to be expected.

While good paint can be had in rattle cans, if the area's not to large an airbrush would be a lot neater from an overspray standpoint.

Maybe try a few different finishes, it can be rewarding. Costs a bit up front but you'll know where you stand.

This is one way: Also I use a size 16 TVS seat mounted uplocking with a locknut and threads cut. The fore grip end will accept a size 17 Fuji WCS winding check. Looks great.

Matt, that's pretty funny "my last name being banned" I thought that only happened around here! Lol Perhaps I'm too argumentative! Maybe the man's holding me down. Have a good one. By the way, I agree with Tom, this is a rodbuilding forum.

I'm usually building 6.5-7.5ft. spin or cast rods so a long way to sight down the blank. In this thread I describe what I'm currently doing. Once they're wrapped, no further alignment takes place.

Phil, maybe I'm using too much tension, I'll try some tests. But after encircling the upright 3 times and blocking wraps, I'm not feelin' it.

O.K. use guide foot adhesive. Wrap the guide using a Forhan lock wrap. Now break the guide free for final alignment. Explain to me how you can move the guide back and forth on the blank with the upright locked to the blank and keep the foot parallel to the blank. You might move the toe back and forth, but you're not going to move the ring in relation to the blank. Locked is locked.

I use bands as per Roger often using 2 for runners. After my 2 line stress test and much stressing over perfect alignment I will go along the blank and place a TINY! drop of super glue on each side of the guide foot. This is tedious and I know ! I'm not supposed to do this, however super glue breaks down after 30 min. when kept wet, and I'm not concerned about removing them for future repair/rep
