I'm with Mick, independent data. Nobody involved with an axe to grind.

I'd opt for the testing being conducted independently of the Expo. Enough going on there.

If it was perfect you could one day sell it for what you paid for it. The blank might be a different story.

Good job Chris! Maybe this should go into the "read before posting" category!

A little reading over past posts goes a long, long way. Even if only in helping to understand terminology. The world is at your fingertips, just gotta look.

I wouldn't think of that blank as a spinner Mick , but I hear ya'. My first thought is "did you do a search?" So I did:

Shimano does not sell blanks. I've no idea who makes them, and from what I see and hear, no one else does either. So I'm no help! I see a few guys on tv and you-tube who know, but they're not sayin'.

Is spine location a concern in the way carbon fiber arrows are assembled? I know, not an archery forum.

I find that I if I play my cards right I can equal or exceed a $500 factory rod for about 1/2 that. If said rod comes with a lifetime replacement warranty, I'm dead meat! Sometimes there's more in the factory price than meets the eye. A lot of people break rods. Lol. I fully guarantee my builds until they leave the house. After that we'll have to work something out! I am after all a hobby builder

Never met Jim, but did have some communication with him. He would go out of his way to be helpful. Condolences to all who knew him.

This is a MHF 7' caster, and I did spring for a Fuji RV-6 T-2 guide train so weight is something of a concern. I can't make it lighter as I go. Guess it is what it is. I did get one blank that was a bit lighter than listed, SC-5 76MLXF. Two totally different animals

229. Blank wgt.
Bought a high end blank listed at 1.94 oz., weighs 2.15 oz. Sounds close to me. Any thoughts?

232. Re: Good Snake Skin
Any I've used has come from Mudhole it was very nice, but sometimes you have to fight with them to get the size needed. Can be tough to keep the diamonds centered depending on how the snake was skinned. or how the snake grew.

235. Re: Rod broke
At this point I'd say It 's nothing to do with the build and also not the cold. My first guess was high sticking.

The broken one will be perfect for a different technique. Lol.

I'd be a bit suspicious of that "hookset". Set it on what? Did he land the fish? If it was the blank, it should have broken when you bent it around during the build. Although I must say, I don't test my blanks to hookset shocks.

You can shim up the other end a bit, Wrap up over the foot for a way, remove the shim ang continue the wrap. I do this often even with Fuji KLH strippers.

Learn to do it as Norm said. You will not go back. The sooner you put the pull loop in the wrap the more wiggle room you have with cutting the wrap thread so close to to the loop once it's tightened up. Why pull the tag up through your beautiful wrap and then cut it with a razor blade if there's no need for it in the first place?
