Thank you Tom K. for confirming what I was taught a long time ago.
I just read the Q&A section of RM (vol #8 #4). I learned almost 20yrs.
ago that a rod blank dosn't know or care what type of components
one mounts to it. It is what it is and one can utilize it's strengths and or
weeknesses however they please.
Now please excuse this not so short rant!
I had not been involved

Hi all,
My Brother sent me a Fenwick SH962 2 piece 8' honey fiberglass blank.
I assume the "SH" refers to "steelhead" and I think this is a 8wt or 10wt
flyrod blank but not really sure? Is anybody familiar withthis blank?
I emailed Fenwick but no reply yet. Maybe I need to call them.
I do know this blank is about 20 yrs old.
Thanks in advance,

Hi Steve,
I'm building a heavy/fresh - med/salt 15-40lb. jig stick (1st bumper rod) and I'm using double foot guides through out. With this
rod, obviously, guide weight is not a factor but strength is. Anything lighter and I would use the single foot guides
99% of the time.
The high quality of todays single foot guides makes them the first choice for me when ever possible. As you know

3280. Re: Smallest guide size
Aaron,
Acording to what I have read on the board, it would depend on the knots that might need to pass
through the guide (s). Use only the largest needed and stay as small as possible.
And Have Fun!!

3281. Re: Tiger Eye Fly Blanks
Ditto! Sam,
I built an Ultra-Light 2pc. spinning rod using a "Tiger-Eye" blank I also bought thru @#$%& and am very impressed with
it! Spent less than $30.00.. Used the Amtak rainbow zerconium guides and the rootbeer color blank really pops.
If I were to build another one I would probably try a lighter set of guides. The Amtak's look sweat but I think they are
a bit heavy.

Hi Steve,
If you do not want to become a rod builder I suggest you find someone to re-build
the baitcaster for you. There is a good chance if you do it yourself, you will contract
the dredded "rod builders addiction"! As of yet, there is no cure!!
Where do you live? You might be able to find a builder in your area by checking the
directory here.
Good luck in what ever you deci

Hi Eijiro,
IMO I believe it would be pretty hard to over-heat the blank with a hair dryer. Be very very careful if you use
anything else like an alcohol lamp, propane torch, or cigarette lighter. Look into the FAQ & Library sections
of this board for some quick suggestions on this subject.

Hi Chris,
General rod building is ok to do indoors with no special ventilation needed unless you are using paints or solvents
or other things like that. Putting thread to the blank requires no chemicals but you will have read the lables on the
glues and or epoxy you are using. I have my rod jig set up in my garage and have no problems. I'll take the blank
into the back yard to apply paint or
