I know numerous Tournament Anglers and none try to hide the fact that they are brutal on their gear. It is what it is. As Tom mentioned, it is about getting that fish in the boat no matter how it is done. Make it clear with your customers when they buy a rod that it is only covered for xyz and that YOU get to make the call on whether it is a warrany or not. Spend a few minutes telling them ho

Hi Richard, My thoughts would be that it would probably be pretty sweet if you were rigging it wacky or some other way with the hook point exposed.

Duane, what size line are you using? That is a great blank but I'd be tempted to go with an MB, most likely a MB843 since you are pitching it 'not needing casting distance' and may need to pull a fish out of cover. Eitherway, you'll have a blast!! Senkos are deadly and you can't beat the feeling of hooking a solid fish with only a few feet of line out.

Hi Lorenzo A lot of anglers 'Drop Shot' with a Senko and like a short rod for doing so. Maybe your buddy is 'drop shotting' or just likes the 6'6 length. If you are looking to build it as a spinning rod and 'Drop Shot' I'd recommend the XSB822.5 6'10 6-14LB FAST ACTION (1/8-5/8)oz That is a very light blank at 1.6oz's and has a beautiful action. Casting a 'Drop Shot' rig has become very

As mentioned above...Fish it and You'll Love it the way it is. For those who pay attention to the spine it would be 10x worse if it was in between, being on the opposite side is no problem.

Russell, I would agree with you on the RCLB if you need to keep them out of structure but even then, most people don't understand how powerfull that blank is. Keep the rod low, let it load through the entire blank and it will stop a freight train. The Batson boys in WA use it for Monster Sturgeon, when Karry from Batson had me try to break one several years ago at ICAST, I was amazed at the po

10-4, I would highly suggest the Batson RCLB80XL. I personally cut 6 inches off the butt to make the rod 7'6, much easier to handle and get in and out of the truck.

How are you fishing for the tarpon? Out of Canaveral I assume you are drifting pogies in the pods and maybe something similar in the keys. Without more info, my all time favorite tarpon blank is the RCLB80xl. You can throw an unweighted crab a half a mile with it's super soft tip, while its backbone will stop a Mack Truck. The tip is crisp yet flexes enough through the first 1/3rd of the blan

Tom and Ken nailed it on the head. Be completely honest with your customer as to what you are comfortable with in regards to the build. If one asks for a type of rod that you aren't familiar with or a wrap that you haven't mastered, let him or her know and either do what it takes to master that aspect of the build or pass on it. Going beyond the customer's expectations will repay you ten fold f

How far are you needing to cast? We use a lot of inshore type rods when fishing for whiting in Florida, 'averaging 1lb or so', using a high low setup with sand fleas or small pieces of shrimp. The only thing different that I see in the setup is that we only use 1oz or so of lead and let it drift with a slow retrieve to keep the line tought. It is DEADLY!! When everyone else is chucking 5oz of

Don't let the summer heat burn you out! With the afternoon rains cooling things off, now is the perfect time for night fishing. Try swimming a black lizard through vegetation with a slow and steady retreive or pop a black Jitterbug across the surface for an explosive strike that's sure to wake you up. Don't be intimidated by the bugs, throw a Thermacell in your pocket and take advantage of t

Hi Gabe, We have the ceramic hooks in stock as well as the thread bobbins that rick mentioned above. I personally use bobbins or like Michael mentioned, let the thread come righ off the spool to the rod. -Tight wraps.

The Batson SU1418F-M is an awesome blank and like Bill mentioned, it is should be very close to what you are looking for. We have the SU1418 in stock and would be glad to compare the action of it over the phone with you to see if we can help you dial it in. Feel free to give us a shout 407-240-8331.

Jeremy, The XP840 is lighter and a little faster 'crisper action'. The finish on the ip840 is matte while the finish on the xp840 is Titanium Chrome. The Minimas would be my suggestion for weight reduction.

Hi Dan, The new ALPS Chucks are great and would make your builds much more enjoyable. As Justin mentioned above, take the middle stand in your wrapper and turn it the opposite direction as the others. We have the ALPS Chuck in stock if you are interested and would be glad to help you anyway we can.

Paul, free to give me a call. I guide Tarpon trips in Boca Grande May-June and understand the beating that tackle goes through while fighting these brutes. . One thing is for sure, you want a soft tip to feel the bite and absorb the head shakes/jumps while you also need a backbone that will stop a Mack Truck. Whichever frames you choose I would highly suggest SIC or Zirconia rings with a fla

Mitch, both are very nice blanks. I pulled both from stock and the XSB782 has a faster action, more power, weighs less, and has a much nicer 'titanium finish'. The XSB782 weighs 1.34 oz. and the SJ782 weighs 2.62oz. We have both on hand and would be happy to help anyway we can.

Interesting concept and after thinking about it, it may look really slick on a matte blank. Let us know what you end up doing and how it turns out.

As Tom mentioned, most manufacturers will simply replace the blank or rod. A repair like you completed takes time to do right, which it sounds like you did an awesome job, and unfortunately can't bring back the original action. Did you use a piece of blank as the outer sleave?

Barry mentioned the RCLB70M and I would agree. That blanks is VERY tough and has a soft tip for feeling the bite while avoiding pulled hooks. We use the RCLB80L and XL on our tournament tarpon rods for 200lb fish with locked down drags and never have any issue turning the fish.
