Gator Season is in full swing down here in Florida and I have some great clients 'Father and Son' who I've guided in the past coming in in an hour or so. I know we'll be having a blast all weekend chasing Swamp Lizards. We'll be stickin'm with Spinning rods as usual and holding on for dear life! Hope you guys get on the water as well. Be safe and bring someone along for the ride.

As mentioned a couple times above, the RCLB80xl would be my blank of choice. This is a super versatile blank and won't break the bank. I have a couple in stock and would be more than happy to help you out. If you are ever worried about 'how thick' a blank is going to be look at the butt diameter. Not trying to be captain obvious, it is easy to overlook and really makes it easy to see if it wil

Brian, you are doing the right thing by asking rather than just picking one off of a website or catalog. Feel free to give me a call 407-448-3635 and I'd be more than happy to help you out. If you are in the Victoria area I would suggest taking Brandon up on his offer. The RX8 line of blanks is second to none and Brandon is a great guy. Welcome to the club!!

I'm with Russel but with the abuse that mose pier rods are faced with I'd be more apt to go with the RCLB70xl or 80xl. Soft enough tip to throw free lined live baits if he wants and plenty of backbone to handle 3ounces as well as the beating most rods take on the pier. The RCLB79's are amazing!!

Hey Casey, Micros have been out for a while and in stores for a decent amount of time but now with the improvements in the reliability of the guides more and more production companies are building with them. There are a ton of posts on here about micro rods, run a search and you'll find plenty to read. The biggest benefits in my book would be, -Lighter Rod -More sensitive -Less of an

HI Roger, We have had a lot of guys building smallmouth rods on Batson's XSW Blanks. They were 'designed' for walleye and as you know smallmouth often call for very similar applications and these blanks cross over very nicely. I am in the middle of epoxying one for a good friend of mine who lives in MI literally as I type this. ®-walleye-blanks-c-21_183_248.html

Derrek, I would be very surprised if you hurt the graphite and I wouldn't bother sanding it down. It would take some decent pulling to get a seet down far enough to hurt the integrity of the blank. I'm guessing it was an aluminum seat which probably means it is a heavier blank, which would leave even more room for error. You're fine, build it and enjoy!

You should be fine, I would load it a number of times in the same manner 'maybe a little more' that you will while fishing it to be sure it is okay before you build it up.

Another vote for the batson RCLB's, top notch!! I ready through most of the thread but didnt' see Texalium tubing mentioned. It is a woven graphite that is super light, looks great, and can be filled with foam or premade arbors. Batson has made some great kits with this handle system and we have them instock. Here is a link, feel free to give us a call, we are more than happy to help.

It is definitely something that takes time to feel comfortable doing and but it will happen, stick to it and you will build your confidence to make accurate casts when you need to without even thinking about it. Fishing from a kayak, as you know, presents a ton of advantages, keep doing what you're doing and you'll have a blast!!

Hi George, Quite often Graphite rods are faster than fiberglass rods in general and for that matter may be considered 'less forgiving'. You may want to try some slightly slower or softer 'fast action' graphite blanks. This is a very common issue with fish that have soft mouths such as trout or very hard mouths such as tarpon. A more foregiving blank is often the answer and where I try to

Hi Chase, If you are set on a 'Fast' action then I would highly recommend the HS series from batson as Jim has mentioned above. Personally, the inshore popping series IP963 8' is my choice and a very popular build for inshore saltwater fishing. It was designed to be a great inshore blank and Batson did an awesome job. The action is Moderate fast, but in most cases a true fast or extra fast

Rick is right on. I know a hadfull of these guys and most do not fish the same rods they put their names on. They may look the same but their are custom built out of different components, some of which aren't available in the US. Weight and Sensitivity are of utmost importance to these guys.

If you aren't using a foregrip you can cut the reel seat down to where it is tight on the reel. No need to be sure you have room to get the reel out because you'll be able to back the nut off the seat and up the blank giving you all the room you'll need. Just be sure you leave enough threads so that they are all the way through the hood. This makes fora much more comfortable grip and puts the b
