I have never done a tiger wrap, but I'm about to attempt my first on a University of KY themed rod. I'd like to get a blue effect. I've ran some searches and looked at pictures on this site and others. I was thinking a black and silver metallic base with the blue as my top thread after sacrificing. Other thoughts are black and white base with blue on top, or black and blue base with blue on t

I like to spray Krylon UV clear acrylic over the decals to protect them. Whether it's wrong or right, I can't say for sure b/c I've recently just started building, but it has worked so far for me and the handful of builds I've done. I also spray this over any handwritten information I put on to protect it from the epoxy. I haven't had any issues with decals bleeding or handwritting bleeding.

Who all on here builds and is from KY? It would be nice to have people to bounce stuff off of locally. I'm live just outside Louisville, but am back in my hometown a lot in Benton,Ky next to KY Lake. I've only got a few builds under my belt. I just finished a custom Castway 965 UofL themed deep cranker with all 4s on top. I'll be building a UK themed one for myself this week to get the stin

I've got a guy wanting two crappie rods, one a 6' 1 piece rod for 1/16 oz jigs, and the other rod a 2 piece 11' rod 1/16 oz jigs. Still new to rod building, I don't know what blanks to recommend to him. I've built on batson's and american tackles blanks in the past and liked those for ultralights. Does anyone that builds a lot of crappie rods have any suggestions? Thanks Jeremy W. Reed

Potato guns are always fun. You just need to get a bigger chamber area to join it to. I think it was a 5" or 6" 2' section that I used in the past for the fuel chamber. Aside from that, you could make some sort of static testing apparatus with them, a spine finder, etc. I'd go with the potato gun.

I use a technical pen. It's a Koh-i-noor rapidograph pen. I believe Matt Davis has a good description of how he uses his if you run a search, I believe a few others also use a technical pen. It was here that I got the idea to use one. I put a layer of epoxy down, let it dry, then write the info, let it dry, and then spray with some krylon acrylic uv clear coating to protect the ink. Once all

I'm fairly new to rod building, with only a handful of rods under my belt. I recently built an panfish rod for my dad ACSJ781. He's already wanting another rod to add to his arsenal. I'm thinking a IP840 with a tennessee handle. What is the best material for a tennessee handle? Or any other suggestions for the setup? Typically, I set a spinning rod up with a 25, 16, 10, (sometimes a 7or6

I am thinking about cutting down a castaway 964 to 7'3". Has anyone done this, and if so, how did it affect the rod? I'm looking to make a rattletrap/medium crank rod. Thanks for the help.

For those of you that have been at this awhile, what all do I need to do to set up a business to get wholesale pricing? It looks like I'm going to be building a lot more rods than just for myself, so I need to look at saving as much money as possible on components. I have dealt with a mom and pops dealer, and really like them, guides and blanks are usually pretty cheap compared to mudhole or

I've built two spinning rods, so my building is very limited. I am building a deep cranker on a castaway 965 and plan on using the ecsm seat. Since I have never built a exposed blank seat, I need help in knowing what to order. Here are my measurements - I will be trimming 1 1/4" off the butt, so the measurements below are after the 1 1/4" is trimmed. 14.37mm butt - 11" gri

I'm about to start a build on a castaway 965 xp3, the customer wants a handle length similar to the KVD tour series 7'10" cranker....does anyone have the measurement from the butt to the back of the reel seat? I have the overall length, but I need to figure out what size rear grip to order. He is more concerned about a comfortable rod, so has anyone built on this blank, and if so, what len

I recently got into rod building so I'm still learning a lot, though my understanding is the learning never stops. I just picked up a revo winch, so now it's time to wrap a cranking rod. Any recommendations? i know nothing about the cranking blanks. It will be spiral wrapped and I want to use micro guides. I just finished up a spinning rod; it's a baston xsb 822.5 and paired with a daiw
