I'm attempting for the first time a carbon fiber grip. It's going to be a 4.75 TN handle split grip on a Batson RX8 XP840 panfish rod with minimas and a ceramic tip. I bought some 8lb foam, mixed it, and poured it into a square plastic container. I sprayed Pam on the inside of the container....the foam did not stick. I then used a radial arm saw to cut 1 1/2" squares about 10" lon

This stuff is good to hold on the reel and doesn't leave it sticky.

Thank you Kevin. I haven't ever had the chance to watch anyone use one. I'm more or less self taught with some advice along the way, so I didn't want to learn out the hard way of how it all works. Michael - I basically kept my eye out for power wrappers. I actually ran across the one I bought here on the buy/sell tab. It was just a general description, not naming the brands, so I inquired

I recently got an old clemens rod wrapper and have it up and running. Is there a certain way to string the line through the thread carriage? I have the 8 spool carriage. I've seen some with pictures where the thread is double wrapped around the tension spool/knob and some just use it as a roller. Also, for those wrapping with a clemens or renzetti, do you wrap with the line coming from above

I'd just like to thank Roger Wilson for wiring up the motor end of a home made rod wrapper in progress. Mr. Wilson offered to help in the wire up of a foot control, dc motor, power supply, and reverse switch and I took him up on it. I had a number of people to send me emails and offer help/suggestions with the project. I'm still working on it, but it's going at a much slower pace since I ran a

I had the same thing happen to me the first time I tried it on a guide replacement with black wraps. It had a cloudiness to it. I did a thin coat first. Then I did the build up coats. I put the drops of finish right on the wrap and used the brush to even it out. I left it on for one day then cut it off to use regular finish. I gave it another shot on another guide replacement repair. This

Thanks for the compliments. I'm just now getting it to work the way I like it. The first few ones not so good. On mine, I am using testors paints. I use a little wooden pick to scrap the pigment from the bottom of the little jar. On some colors such as metal flake colors, I've found that shaking it up first helps to get a truer color. I like my marbling where the lines are more defined as opp

My process is that I put down the base coat with color (sometimes I'll paint a matte/black blank another color before the basecoat). I also use a disposable $.99 paint pallete, and go ahead and mix my marbling colors with epoxy. Then I wait a little over an hour before I start adding the top colors; Kenneth Price suggested to me to give it some time to set up, and I found I like an hour or so th

Will the minimas 16/8/5 be able to pass 8# flourocarbon? Typically I use 20,12, 8, then 3s when using the minimas. I haven't had the chance to experiment with reducing the reduction train. Thanks for the replies. jwr

I'm building a shakey head xsb802.75. It has a Tennessee handle, split grip, and will use fuji guides using the kr theory, 20h, 12h, and 5.5h, 5-6 size 4 fuji micros + Fuji tip top. I have a set of fuji ss alconites, and with the setup using six micros, the guides weigh 7 grams or .20 oz. Since I do not have a set of Titanium guides, would someone weight the same set and post the weight? Is t

Apparently, I'm not the only one that noticed this. I just saw that the exact same question was asked on another forum regarding the video above. They believe it was done for looks, and even said that it would make line tangles worse.

I was recently watching a video that shows Aaron Marten talking about a shakey head bait. He has a spinning Megabass rod. If you watch the video, you'll notice that the stripper guide is turned backwards. What is the benefit of this? Here is the video Thanks, Jeremy Reed Reed Rods KY

Thank you Roger for the replies. Here is a picture of something similar I would like to build. I know nothing about DC motors, so this may be a dumb question, but what is your power supply setup? My understanding is that these cannot run on the standard wall socket power supply. Thanks, jwr

I was saving up to buy a good power wrapper, but now I've decided to build one this fall/winter. I'm moving back to wky, about 10 mins from KY and Barkley Lakes, where my parents and in-laws are at. With the move I gain access to welding equipment, bandsaws, industrial equipment through my dad and millwright equipment through my dad's cousin. So with their help, and what I've learned through t

I recently watched the video Anglers Resource put up on you tube. I'm just curious, how many of you are using the KR casting concept with the 10kw df, 5.5 kw df, then micros? I've been building most of my casting with micros on top, beginning with 4 or so with stripper around 20"-23" from the reel face, and I haven't noticed any issue. When I spiral wrap, I'll usually start with a 6

I got this with some gift cards at harbor freight. It has more than enough room. I have a bin for about everything. Then when I have a rod order, I just gather everything into one bin. When I'm ready to work on that rod, I move the bin to the table. I've seen it as low as $89. I haven't even touched the other side of the storage. The smaller bins easily hold 50+ cork rings. I also f

I recently had an issue with the white paint on one of the MHX blanks. I bought the rod last fall, hoping to build it for myself. Because of customer builds and other obligations, I was just getting around to build on it. Only now, I've decided to build it for an ALS donation rod coming up in mid June. Not expecting much, since it was bought so long ago, I contacted mudhole yesterday, offered

I've had 5 open shoulder blade surgeries in the past 2 years (2 on left and 3 on right -- I've re-tore them twice and just recently re-tore them, so it's looking like surgery 6 and 7) from where I tore some muscles off my shoulder blade from an old football injury, this caused a lot of neck pain on its own. But in having these, I learned a lot of exercised to help. (You'll also get neck pain,

Regarding the sandpaper - I've bought kits from Billy V in the past, they are cloth backed, and seem to last forever. I've heard good things about the easy wood tools with the carbide tip; most people I've talked to seem to prefer them over any of their other tools.

I now have the Jet 1220 lathe. Now I need to add some accessories. What accessories do you all recommend? What are you basic ones needed, and what are the ones that are nice to have but not necessarily needed? I have the following: I bought a NOVA2 chuck and insert this last week (on sale at woodcraft for $139). Keyless Drill Chuck 2mt 1/2" Mini Lathe

So, I have a lathe now. I got the Jet 1220. I got an extra thread adapter with it. I have a simple set of tools. I believe I'm going to get a 2 jacobs drill chucks, one with a live center. I'll use this with the mandrel till I can save up a bit more and get a good chuck. In addition to what Mr. Stevens said earlier, what other tools would you recommend? I thought about getting a batson rea

I have a chance to get the jet 1220 for $300 used, possibly less for a rod trade. It is 2 years old and has only be used to turn pens. It does not come with any extras, just the stuff it originally came with. The seller bought a smaller lathe, so he is letting this one go. I'm going to look at it within the next few days. Supposedly it is in near mint condition. Is this a good buy? I curr

Would you build casting or spinning? I was leaning heavily towards spinning, now I'm debating. I have a lew's tournament pro baitcaster that would look good on it.

I have a Batson 802.75 blank that I haven't built yet. I'm debating whether to build it spinning or casting. This will be my rod. I know these make good senko rods, but what others do they excel in? Thanks for the help. Jeremy Reed
