I agree the build was not as good as I would have liked. It was his first effort and he insisted on mixing in some non-Fuji parts. It wasn't pretty but considering the target market it probably went (mostly) unnoticed. Hopefully, he had a good experience and we will see custom rods more often in the future on TackleTour.

Dennis Shew, "Cal", is the lead reviewer for all things rod and reel at the website TackleTour.com. This site is tops in the world for tackle reviews and if you don't visit here often you are missing a huge compendium of good information. With over 3 million hits a month, they maintain a level of professionalism and editorial integrity that seems to be sorely missed on many "pay-to

POINT blank PB691MXF, “This rod has the perfect amount of tip for accurately casting treble hook baits around tight cover such as: Pop R’s and prop baits. Also doubles as an amazing jerkbait blank, because it loads very well, but has a faster tip to implement a very clean and erratic jerk.” – Kyle Welcher, BASS ELITE Pro

There is a point where braid (and/or mono or fluorocarbon) is simply to stiff to be choked down in the "rapid choke" sysytem defined by KR Concept. The idea behind the concept is to quickly choke line through smaller guides to assure it is running smoothly along the blank as SOON AS POSSIBLE in the cast. GPS for KR does not cover the #40 braid scenario because (generally) #40, because o

This is not "proof" of anything but it links one logical thought with another. And here is Fuji's perspective via their North American mouthpiece - who happens to agree with them.

Great comments but... The SiC ring is now in a Slim design which makes it lighter than ALCONITE, not heavier. No one mentions ring polish which is a substantial part of the final price. TORZITE® is the most highly polished ring available, followed by SiC. Many will swear that highly polished rings feel smoother and cast a little longer than rings of lesser polish. Subjective? Maybe, but the

Think of the LRV as a reverse LN of the past. LN, and LRV are lighter framed guides than the KW. For surf rod builds, I would stick with KW but LRV as runners on a spinning rod would withstand the forces just fine and provide a really unique look on the project. LRV is a top-of-the-line choice on bass and inshore rods of any power where a double foot guide is needed, and it's a true K-Series guid

FazLite™ is an intermediate ring Fuji has created for "economy" builds. It specs better than Aluminum Oxide in key characteristics but doesn't quite reach ALCONITE® standards. It's a "budget" ALCONITE in my opinion, a way to save a few bucks and still wind up with a great rod with plenty of durability. Together with Fuji's latest iteration of the CC, BC and GM corrosion contro

ALCONITE® is not going anywhere. It remains the most popular mid-priced ring globally and can be found in all of Fuji's frames except Titanium which is reserved for SiC and TORZITE®.

Many of you know that I've been hanging around on this forum for almost a decade now and other than Fuji and POINT Blank I don't talk much about other products...if ever. But recently, Flex Coat introduced its Dual Control Wrapping/Finishing Variable Speed DC Motor with foot control. I had many long discussions with Roger and John and Craig about my limited capability at the bench and I have open

As I begin pulling assets together for a new Anglers Resource/Fuji catalog (you think building a rod is tedious! ;)... I'll extend the usual invitation for HIGH-RESOLUTION pics of guides and wraps for inclusion in the book. Hi-res means jpgs that are like, 3000 X 2500 pixels or TIFF files of 20 megs or larger. I have a great selection from a guide wrap challenge earlier in the year, but I have le

Sorry to take so long to chime in, gentlemen, I have been away and decided to get some input from our pro, Kyle Welcher, before answering. He uses the 731MXF for medium divers but tells me for most applications the MH will be the ticket for most anglers. Kyle rates the 731MXF as the most versatile blank in the line up: "This is THE blank if you want to make long casts with all of your tradit

Once you are past the "barb" just a few turns, you're "locking" the guide good enough for 99% of the stresses you'll encounter. Try loosening the turns that are coming down the backside of the barb and then tightening the last two (or so) turns on the wrap. That way, you can use the tight wraps to close the gaps on the loose threads when you pack. Not going too far with the th
