Thanks Fred. With all might I couldn't budge the blank, twisting or pulling. As a body man I sand everything, lol. Easiest handle I've done yet. I may post pictures with part number of anyone's interested.

Thanks guys. The thing is I find myself wanting to build more at home, instead of going to my brother in laws workshop(lathe). The wooden discs I found were 1" in diameter, easy for vibronics handle. The nylon "arbors" are 1" also with a 1/2" hole. Blank has a butt diameter of .495. The carbon tube I have is .98 OD, requiring very little sanding with drill and mandrel mad

Will the rod blank flex enough for failure if these rigid materials are used?

I would like to hear opinions on arbor material for tn handles or even reel seats. Is there advantage to dense materials such as wood, poker chips, or even nylon(lowes has spacers 1" OD diameter,1/2" ID, and 3/8" long). Or can this cause failure by not providing enough cushion while the rod ovals from flexing? Thanx

I would like info on how to soften a snake shed so it can be used as a butt wrap. I have done several snake skin wraps, but never a shed. A fellow employee brought me a full length shed, from eyes to tale. I know Mark Crouse has had success. If you don't want to share in the forum I understand. You could also email If you like.

Lol. Didn't mean to start a p contest. Here's the thing. I do have the original microwave guide. I also plan on building more inshore rods. I'm just trying to keep my bass setup as light as I can within reason. Besides salt, I mostly fish small streams and the new river. I recently started taking my kayak to a local lake and my ultralight isn't enough . Just wanted to know if Tom's setup would

I appreciate the advice on a simple tn handle for my Bushido sj68 8-15lb build. Now I'm thinking guide train. I have an inexpensive Shimano spinning reel for now, but I would like to upgrade to a higher end possibly larger spool reel in near future. I have the old castaway microwave guide but it just seems a little heavy for this build. Could I use the Tom Kirkman setup with 2 guides "on to

I haven't posted in a while and I just received an AmTak Bushido spin/jig 8-15lb rod blank. I recently took up largemouth fishing out of my yak at a local lake. My question is about Tennessee handles. As much as I dislike the looks, nothing is as comfortable. I have carbon fiber tubes as well as carbon fiber sleeve material. Should I build my handle using thin wood or plastic arbors, if so b

Ok thanx Steve. If I dont need the room to put hot hands in the handle, is the Hot Handle more sensitive than the Vibronics Handle? What is your favorite shim material for the latter. You can email me if you had rather not say on here. I really appreciate everyones help, and have a great deal of respect for everything you stand for.(read some of your interview with Batson maybe?)

I was thinking about trying an offset TN handle(Steve's Hot Handle) and was wondering if you guys ever run into problems with guide height? Seems like on a short ultralight it would be hard to get a tall enough guide, even with match guides using the NGC. I know this sort of thing is really popular on ultralight to light equipment, but what about light inshore rods? Thanx, as always just try

hi guys been a while since i posted, i just got home from fishing at the cape lookout rock jetty. we fished for reds and specks using spinning gear. i usually try to fly fish all i can but most admit it was a blast! we threw 3/8 oz jig heads tipped with curly tail grups or gulp alive mullets/shrimp. i would like to build a rod that is very light for this application, that i could possibly use

I have a left over microwave guide and was wondering if I could use on my next build. I am headed down to Atlantic Beach NC, and am going to redo a 10 ft. Shakespeare Alpha for surf fishing. As you know this is a cheap rod and I haven't run CCS numbers yet, hopefully it will handle over 4 oz. My question is can I use the microwave guide with this rod and Okuma Avenger ABF 90 reel? Or do I need

If you are looking for cheap consider polyester fiberglass resin. Not 100 percent on durability, should be fine (its used in both auto and marine repair). Pros Exremely hard Cheap Easy to find Fast Cons Amber hue Hard to use first time Fast The trick to using this resin is speed and temp. It sets up really fast in hot humid weather. I start by mixing

I had a fellow drop off a St. Croix PM70HF2(7 foot medium/heavy muskie casting rod) with a missing ring on the stripping guide. Any idea of guide brand and insert? Black Fuji M series with aluminum oxide insert seems really close. Should I replace it with a ring lock style guide? He said it didn't have to match exactly.

I have an American Tackle Matrix 9ft 3wt broken between stripping guide and the next guide up. The person who built the rod tried to repair it. It appears as though they cut out a section 6 in. long and put in a smaller diameter blank . May have been fiberglass because it flexes like crazy. Do you guys think I need a fiberglass over sleeve with something on the inside? Open to all suggestion

Any suggestions on a 10 or 11 ft. 4wt. blank used exclusively for nymphing? The trout are anywhere from 10 to 20 in.

You are dead on Andrew! Small creeks for pan fish casting under brush, ect. I can't talk him into a TN handle, heeded the rest of the advice. Any other suggestions on reel seat and reel seat placement? I have a left over Areo. thanx
