I have a left over microwave guide and was wondering if I could use on my next build. I am headed down to Atlantic Beach NC, and am going to redo a 10 ft. Shakespeare Alpha for surf fishing. As you know this is a cheap rod and I haven't run CCS numbers yet, hopefully it will handle over 4 oz. My question is can I use the microwave guide with this rod and Okuma Avenger ABF 90 reel? Or do I need a much larger stripping guide? Could I also use say a sz 50 and sz 10 and make my own "microwave" style guide. I won't be passing any knots through my guides, so are "micro" guide(PacBay minimas) ok for for running guides or do I need more strength? Just trying to make this setup work for this trips and others this year. I will be on the look out next ICRBE for a good deal on surf blanks. Edited 1 time(s). It's something you'll just have to try. Since you already have it, trying it should take all of 15 minutes, if that.
