I'm no pro but do use the power wrapper for all of my wrapping. Normally turn by hand or under power slowly. The tension provided by the motor (not under power) helps me a lot in keeping tension or from unwrapping.

My method is similar to Seth's CP the entire wrap and past where the tie-off's will be by a little bit and let it dry overnight. Come back the next day an start the tie off, after about 8 tight wraps start trimming and tapering the decorative wrap threads and continue & finish the tie off. It has worked well for me so far. Let us know what works for you!

I have a Pac-Bay unit and really like the results. I typically mix 3-4cc batches and this seems perfect for the unit. Any larger and it seems a larger "agitator" would be helpful. Mix and pour onto foil, blow the epoxy to help release the bubbles and apply.
Not to mention rotating the rod by hand for the first hour or so has made a dramatic difference in my finishes. Much more so

Sorry for the long delay.
Tom - Expedient as always, thank you!
-Spencer thanks. I did not realize they carried Rogue.
-Kerry a customer asked me about them. Said he has heard the big tarpon guys like one piece, no ferrules to separate and the rod is much "smoother". I tried to talk him out of it, but a local fly shop owner that sells the Loomis Pro-1 is telling him it's the

Hi everybody! I'm looking for a one piece fly blank, rated for an 8wt line between 7' 6" and 9'. Using the CCS data a few 7' blanks are available but nothing longer. G. Loomis has the Cross Current Pro-1 rod out, but no blank, "Rogue Rods" has a 7'9" 789wt blank available, but I would prefer to support our sponsors. If I've missed anything, please let me know!

I'm building one soon for a similar reason, snook & tarpon here on Florida's east coast beaches and jetty's. Looking at a 9' 1/2 - 2 1/2 oz rating blank. This combo should cast far enough & have the back bone to pull them in. Good luck!

Ridge - I see you are in Central Florida. Give the folks at Mudhole (in Oviedo) a call, they may have parts to test what is wrong.

Ditto what Roger said. I've blemished a few epoxy coats with "mystery cork dust". The dust is very fine and will settle EVERYWHERE. This lead me to break down and buy a Jet Mini Lathe, about $300 all said and done. The Jet will also turn wood for reel seat inserts, grips & butt caps. Well worth the investment.

9 Days for 4 rods? Ya you can do it! Turning the rods by hand is a great idea. I normally do not have the patience to do it, but when I've tried the finish comes out better than when power rotating. Follow Steve G.'s advice & tie one up while rotating one (or more)!

16. Re: Blank Help
I've built a few rods for the same type of application. I used a Lamiglas LP903 and it works very well. I throw anywhere from 1/16oz jig with plastic to 3/8oz plugs. And it has some pretty good backbone for pulling on the big fish.

Dan, I should have been up to speed before I said anything, I apologize. However I do have one of the 10wt 3pc Sig. V's you have on clearance & that is the stick I was warned about. In all honesty, that is the only DC blank I've been told to watch the walls on. The fellas on the other rod building sites love your stuff, from king salmon to brook trout. Ya I need to give a call. Lol.

Brian I wouldn't recommend the Dan Craft for tarpon, they walls are a little thin and I have seen them break. I do not know much about the Batson blanks ( heard plenty of good things though). You may take a look at the American Tackle Matrix blanks, they are very tough and a very good blank for the money.
Just a bit of FYI, down here in Tampa we use 12-14 weights for tarpon usually, but if yo

For me it was pretty simple. I was sick of $100 rods not performing to my liking. Got in touch with a few local builders talked to them, but again did not want to spend the money to have them build it. Did I mention I'm cheap? Lol. So I found several websites, some suppliers & started building my own rods.
Along with what most folks have said, I build them for fun and to see the joy it

Joe it can be done. I just put grips on two rods approx. 1" od. It felt like I was going to blow the grip apart, but using Rod Bond it slid nice and incredibly snug on the blank. I think I should go back and read the grip article though. A larger ID Hypalon would be much easier.

I believe that rod will be a 4-8 weight based on the lure weight conversion.
FLY LINE CONVERSION CHART
To convert fly rod numerical line ratings based on weight in grains to terminal tackle weights in ounces, see the following table:
FLY LINE RATING - CASTING WEIGHT (ozs.)
1 - 1/8
2 - 3/16

Here is some advice I received from a Tampa, FL builder:
" (Graphite USA) B79F, B79EF, & BMAG -- they all make great tarpon rods. plenty of power in the butt section. i like the B79EF best because of the extra fast action
The new American Tackle Viper AVGC70MH looks very intriguing as well. I'm building one for a customer using the Lamiglas Kayak series rod. I'll let you know how

Rick unhide your email or email me, and I will shoot you some info on the Vibronic rods.
Forum: rodboard 15 years ago

You may want to check out the "Vibrionic" style rod. It can utilize slip rings to secure the handle, plus placing the blank directly against the handle & your palm. It is outlined in a past issue of Rod Builder. The Texalium or Tennessee tube style handles would work well for this, if you are not setup to build a carbon grip.

What do you mean by that Billy? Also, what guides are on that Hoo Jr? How would it work as a 50lb troller? I may have to email you about a package; blank & book/weaving jig....

Scott, I forgot that you were just around the corner from me should have emailed you.... but for the hardloy boat guides, which ones are you refering too? The "turbo" style or the beefed up double footed "casting" style guides? We will probably on be in 10-15lb fish, so could/should I go lighter? This is way out of my normal light rod stuff, reds/snook/trout...

Hey everybody! I'm heading up to the Floribama area for some fishing the first week of July and need some help on rod selection. The plan is to fish the bottom (80' of water) with live/cut/dead bait on 3-~10 oz of lead and would also like to do some jigging (bottom bouncing or yoyo style) in the same weight range, for snapper and grouper. Using 50-80lb line and would like a 7' rod. What would you

Thanks.

I want to build a few kingfish rods for the upcoming tournament season, but not really sure which blank to go with. I have seen Seeker CLB 704 recommended before, but I would like to start with a lower cost blank. Has anyone built on the American Tackle ATX Series? The AXLB70ML and AXLB70M look like good blanks, and for the price if they don't work out, I can always use them for inshore work.
