Thanks. Blank is dark grey. I’m not a fan of white thread, just a personal thing I guess. I have some time to figure it out. I will spend some time in the rod room experimenting with different setups.

Looking for ideas for a patriotic (red/white/blue) wrap for spinning guides. I have lots of ideas for two footed guides but am coming up blank for single foot guides. Will be using size A thread. Thanks, Dave

Does anyone know where I can purchase just the reel/handle for a palm rod? Did a web search and came up empty. I would like to try to make one to see how they perform. Thanks, Dave

Anyone have a source for a 4 1/2’ to 5’ UL blank, fast action. I have looked and can only find a 5 1/2’. I guess I could cut the blank down but would rather not. Thanks Dave

I have a 7” carbon fiber handle that I snapped the rear tenon off while trying to take the butt cap off after test fitting. It broke even with the rear handle and the tenon is in the butt cap. I trimmed the handle side of the tenon so it is flush or slightly below the handle so the rear grip and the butt cap fit up against each other smoothly. My question is, can I epoxy the handle on the ro

This is for a split grip. What are your thoughts on a 3” fighting butt on a 6’ walleye jigging rod? Using carbon fiber, just not sure if it is too long. The size shorter is out of stock. Thanks

For a basic wrap with a trim band my labor charge is $8 a wrap for single foot and $12 a wrap for double foot. Charge $10 for the handle install, more if I make it out of cork rings vs buying it pre-built. That is what another rod builder in my area told me he charges. Works for me but might not for others.

Update: after some questions and prodding, the customer said he could have….very likely did….high sticked the rod. He understand there will not be a warranty claim made. All is good and thank you to everyone that commented to help me figure why the rod snapped.

I built the rod over the winter on 2022 and I gave the rod to him this past spring, 2022. I had seen pics of his panfish catch so I know it worked this summer.

I am very suspicious of the break. His question to me was, “cold temps shouldn’t cause a rod to break, should it”? I said no, but did ask if the rod had water frozen to it or anything weird…it didn’t. ????

I should also mention I always have to move my guides ever so slightly to get them “perfectly lined up”. I never have a problem doing this so I’m guessing I’m not wrapping to tight. It just stumps me how this could break at the bottom of the guide foot area, making me believe it’s something I might have done.

I had an ultra light rod that I made break at the third guide from the tip. It was being used in below freezing weather, but that shouldn’t hurt anything Guy said he set the hook and it snapped. It was right at the end of the guide foot. I’m sure I didn’t wrap this to tight, but is it possible if you wrap the guide to tight that it could compromise the blank? I inspect each guide and make su

So want do you do when the butt of the rod is so big? I looked at Mudhole and they don’t have anything with a bigger diameter

Doing a split grip carbon fiber handle. The rod butt is wider than the visual foam insert on the fighting butt. Is it safe to ream the butt past the black cf portion that is wrapped over the foam inset? Thanks. Dave

Want to make me an ice rod. The particular blank is tapered flat (like a tickle stick) so I’m wondering how I would go about turning the blank using my rod dryer while the epoxy is curing? Can’t imaging a flat blank turning well with round wheel guides. ??????? Thanks, Dave

I ordered some seaguides for the first time. Put the first guide on and seem to have a problem getting the thread packed nice and tight. The ribs on the top of the foot are not allowing the size A thread to pack tight, the thread gets hung up in the ribs. Burnishing doesn’t seem to help much, i ground the ribs off slightly and that did help considerably but I really don’t want to have to grind

My initial thought was to wrap enough length to make it a match the length of the guides, slip the tip top over it and maybe be done. Sounds good on paper but probably not in the real world of things. Biggest concern is making it solid. Maybe I should just use a fly rod tip top. Need to think more about this one. The tip of the rod is 1.2 mm and I would like a size 6 or larger guide due to
