The glue will saturate the thread enough to make contact with the blank?

I know this has been discussed before and I have done some searching but I must not be searching the correct key words or something. Anyhow, I have a small diameter tip on an ice rod and want to use a certain tip top but the tube is a touch to big. I figured I could do a wrap on the tip to fill the gap but I’m concerned about getting a good bond between the blank, the thread and the tip top. H

33. Re: Go to guide
Not sure of the quality of the sea guides but I am impressed with the customer service. I called this morning hoping to hear a recording of their hours. Wasn’t available so I just hung up, no message left. About an hour later I got a call from them saying they missed my call and wondered if they could help. The gentleman was very helpful, answered my questions and even was going to call the f

Will Zirconia guides work with braided line? I’m guessing most major brand guides are designed to be used with the popular braid?

What is your go to guide for a spinning setup for a bass rod build? I have been using lzr’s but have noticed the guides don’t always run perpendicular to the foot all the time. I like the price point but am not real happy with the quality of them, so I am on the hunt for a new brand of guides, that hopefully won’t break the bank.
Thanks,
Dave

39. The do all blank
Got a friend that shore fishes bass, cats, pike, pan fish. Doesn’t catch anything big, just the normal run of the day fish. He wants me to make him a rod that he can do it all with. I told him good luck! He said to “do your best”. So, what would you recommend for a do all rod in the 6-6 1/2’ length range? I was thinking maybe a medium light power?

I just wanted to thank everyone for the assistance with the spiral wrap. The guy I made it for was very happy with the performance and even sent me pics of three steelhead he caught with it yesterday. I learned a lot on this build and again, thank you all for your help.

After speaking with Lance, I increased the spiral spacing and that made a world of difference. Getting 43 yards now which is almost double the distance!! Never would have thought it would be that drastic of a change. Thanks for everyone’s reply and help!

Using mono line, 12#. The stripper guide is 19” from the reel face. The stripper guide is a 12, then two 10’s and finally an 8. The runner guides are 8 as well. He wanted the 8’s to help with guide freeze up. I think I have 10 or 11 running guides. The spiral setup is ~0, 60, 120, 180 degrees, give or take. The entire spiral is completed in 14”. The rod is 11 1/2’ long, medium power. Whe

Is there someone I could call and discuss my setup for my spiral wrap steelhead rod? It’s 11 1/2’ long, medium power. I have the first guide at ~20” from the bait casting reel, set at 0, next guide is about 4.5” at ~ 60*, next guide another 4.5 inches up at ~120* and the last guide at 180*, 14” up from the first guide. I placed the remaining guides where they need to be. Took it out to cast an

45. Re: Spiral wrap
So I am a bit puzzled after I put the guides on temporarily at roughly 0-60-120-180. Should the line running through the 60 and 120 guides be on the bottom center of the guides under a light load? The 0 and 180 guides have the line touching one of the sides of the guide. First spiral build for me and I want it correct. The guides look pretty good but I probably need to do some adjusting to ge

Thanks for the reply’s! So on the second and third guides, when using 4 of them, are you reducing the guide size or keeping both of them the same size? I am seeing it done both ways.

51. Spiral wrap
I have done some research and would like to confirm what I plan to do since this will be the first spiral wrapped rod for me. I have an 11 1/2’ steelhead rod that I plan to run the first guide at 0, then 60, 120 and finally at 180 degrees. Is it standard practice to run the two middle guides the same size? I see it done both ways but want to make the best setup possible.
Thanks,
Dave

I’m using a regular grill bit. I’m hoping the one inch blocks that I glued up is the solution.

I bought a chunk of scrap decoy cork and mad a handle out of it. I think it turned out very nice. I like the variegated look of it. I found it very difficult to get a 1/4” center hole through the 1 1/4” x 1 1/4” x 8” block. Started center on one end but crept off to the side by the time I got through to the other end. I chucked the cork into the lathe but it is somewhat flexible, so when I r

Looking for a walleye jigging blank but it has to be 2 piece, no longer then 6’8”. Will be used as a vertical jigging rod for walleye in the Detroit river. Jig weight up to 1 oz. What have you built on that is a quality blank? Thanks!
