91. Re: Rod makeover
Great. Thank you for the responses. I’m still not sure what I want to do but it’s nice to know I don’t have to put anything on it. I do like a gloss rod though for some reason.

92. Rod makeover
So I took a Lamiglas walleye closer and stripped it down to the blank-everything off it, lightly wet sanded the blank down using 600 down to 2500 sand paper to remove any noticeable marks where the guides were. Blank looks really good. My question is, can I leave the blank the way it is and start the build or do I have to put a coat of Permagloss or similar on it?

94. Re: PermaGloss
Thank you Norm. I thought that was the case, just didn’t know if I need to sand the entire blank down or if there were some spots of the original coating, if the permagloss would go over it and not be an issue. I will sand it all down as you suggested.

96. Re: PermaGloss
Question for all of you. If I was to strip down a rod, from handle to tip top, would permagloss be the recommended product to give the blank a new look and then start the rebuild with the handle and guides? Looking for something to cover the area where the handle was and the guides because the new handle is going to be shorter then the original and the guides will not be in the same place.

Ya, I am going to move the guide in to around 20-21” and adjust the others accordingly and see how it performs. Like I said, it worked ok, but it sure looks like a long ways from the reel. Appreciate the help Norm!

101. Steelhead rod
I am building my first steelhead rod, 9.5’ long and I laid out the guides but it just doesn’t look right. Went out and did some light casting and it seemed to work ok, but I want to double check with the experts here. This first guide from the spool of the reel is around 25”. Does that seem like a long ways? On my shorter spinning rods, it usually works out to be around 18.5” - 21”. This is a

103. Under wrap and CP
I want to do an under wrap in a yellow but i need to put down a CP so i keep the original color as much as possible. My question is, is there anything wrong with putting the CP on and then wrapping the guide? The reason i ask is because if i wait until the guide is on i don't see how I can get good coverage of the CP under the ring area. Maybe I’m missing something. Btw, it will have black ov

I have a guy who wants a decal of a particular excavator. I found some toy decals of the machine he wants. Is there any reason not to use one of these decals as long as a good topcoat finish is applied?
Thanks!

I had a guy that wanted the ice recoil guides. The feet were wider then the blank. I ground them down but was getting close to the split in he middle. It worked and all,was good but got me wondering what others did in this case.

110. Ice rod and guides
What do you all do when the guide foot is wider then the blank? I can grind it down but there will not be much left of the foot if I did that? Any real issue if the guide is a little wider then the blank if wrapped tight and space filled with epoxy when coating the wrap?

112. Re: Tip top adhesive
Update: I started playing around with this stuff more because I just didn’t understand why it was not holding. I figured it out! I was definitely heating it up to much. I have now done a half dozen tips and everyone of them has held to the point where I can’t pull or twist it off. I fill the tube and hold it over my burner just so it gets warm. When I see the powder “disappear ” in the tub

113. Re: Tip top adhesive
No heat at all. Simply took and gave it a slight twist. There was no resistances. I know I had enough glue on it as there was residual glue on the blank. That cleaned off with my nail. There is no comparison to the flex coat. I was hoping this stuff would work because it is very easy to use.

114. Re: Tip top adhesive
After 16 hours, I took the tip top and very easily pulled it from the blank. At the same time last evening I set the same size tip top using the flex coat tip top stick and can not remove the tip top from the blank. I will not be using this for any of my tip tops. Still glad I bought the jar, now I know how it performs.

115. Re: Tip top adhesive
I bought a jar of this stuff to test it out. I put a tip top on an old rod tonight. I will wait see how it holds tomorrow night. My concern is if someone was to leave the rod inside a boat with a cover on it. How hot can it get before the adhesive fails?

I don’t blame them for the shipping but it is very frustrating when you call to see if it is in stock, place the order and then are told it’s on back order. That is not good customer service IMO. They need to keep their stock inventory accurate on the website. I won’t say I won’t use them again, I like the layout of their web page, it’s easy to navigate over others, but if I can find the same

Anyone else having issues with Mudhole customer service? Over the past 6 months I have had orders not complete, multiple times ordering items that they say are in stock, only to find out they are on backorder. Got to the point where I had to call and verify each item in my order. Now, after talking with the representative about which tip top would fit the blank I was to order, it is the wrong
