Want to make me an ice rod. The particular blank is tapered flat (like a tickle stick) so I’m wondering how I would go about turning the blank using my rod dryer while the epoxy is curing? Can’t imaging a flat blank turning well with round wheel guides. ???????

Easy, use masking tape to essentially make a spot or two on the blank - round and you will have no issues.

You can also use a soda straw and while building the ice rod, slip the straw down over the blank from the tip to a location that would support the blank while turning the blank on the dryer or on the power wrapper.

Then, when the rod is finished, use a razor blade to slice through one side of the straw and remove it from the rod blank.

Just simply make your flat rod blank round in a couple of locations - temporarily - and you will be good go to.

Note:
I use painters striping tape during my rod building. I have tape in 1/16 th, 1/8th, and 1/4 inch widths. If you have such similar painters striping tape that you use during rod building, just cut some pieces of the thinner tape and build up the flat sides of the rod blank to make it non flat and put a couple of wraps of tape over the lengthwise strips, and you will have a spot that will be round and rest nicely in your wrapper and or dryer.

Wrap the tape in the direction the blank turns so there is no chance of the tape unwinding during operation.
