I ordered Prokote thread finish from Mudhole on 12/1, received it and used almost half of it. Went to use it today and noticed the bottom 3/4” is what I wall say gummed up on the blue bottle. Work room is ~72* and it wasn’t like that when I got it. Prior builds set up and I had no issues but not sure why this would have happened in such a short period of time, and I know it wasn’t received this

I am having an issue with my Flex Coat variable speed gear motor. I sent an email to Flex Coat but have not received a response yet, so hoping maybe someone here may be able to help. Here is the issue: when I put the butt in the self centering chuck and simple lay the rod on the supports…no downward pressure to hold the blank in place, the clutch seems to be kicking in and the rod will slow do

Looking for a blank for bottom bouncing walleyes. Here is the description the guy gave me…
“This rod(s) will be used 100% for bottom bouncing for walleye. I generally use 2-3 oz bottom bouncers. Ideally a 7' rod (1 piece). I'm open to slightly longer or shorter, but not too much. The rod has to load up/bend the first 1/3rd - 1/2 so the walleye can eat the crawler harness before he feels it. T

66. Re: Cork handle
Thanks for all the replies. I still think I want to dabble with it. I now need to find a place to buy the cork at a reasonable price.

67. Cork handle
What is everyone doing for cork handles…do you buy your handles already made or are you using the cork rings and shaping your own? I don’t do a lot of builds but am getting tired of suppliers not having stock available so was looking at mini lathes and cork rings. Also, for those of you doing your own handles, what grade cork are you using? This is a hobby and when I do build a rod, I am gener

I built a shadow box with shelves on it and hung it on the wall. Can move them around and can keep same colors together. Super easy to see when you are close to being out of a certain thread. Keeps the dust off them and out of the way.

I do like the LZR’s but supply is limited and backorder has been moved to mid November and who knows if they will be in at that time. I guess I should start keeping them in stock but I don’t do a lot of builds and usually order the guides as needed with the other components.

Thanks for the replies. I will probably use them on the build but will swap out the tip top to a ceramic top.

71. CRB ssr guides
I did a search but didn’t see much out there. Any thoughts in using crb ssr spinning guides and tip tops? I have used the lzr’s before and was happy with them but see the ssr’s are less expensive. Curious on the quality on both the guides and tip tops?
Thanks,
Dave

75. Fly rod logo
For you fly rod builders, where do you generally put the logo that is already on the blank by the manufacturer in relation to the reel? Right side, left side, bottom, top? It’s a short section and really can’t find a spine on it.
Thanks,
Dave

I think I will try the sportsman direct tip tip. I would like the size 8 but it looks like they are not available so I will make do with the #6. Thanks Roger!!

Any idea where I could find a tip top with a tube size .8mm and 1.0 mm (which is a 2/64 and 2.5/64)? I want to make a few ice rods and the tip top on the blanks are very small.
Thanks

Did quite a bit of research last night. Seems like the switch style handle is more of an all around handle vs the single handle. Thoughts?

84. Re: Fly rod
I will definitely check out the blanks. Is there a particular reel seat that everyone likes? How about guides…single foot or do you prefer snake guides? As I said before, I am not a fly fisherman, so I know next to nothing about them. Not concerned about cost, just want a top notch rod to show the appreciation for taking such good care of my dad. I may order a custom decal saying, In memory

86. Fly rod
My dad recently passed away and I want to make his doctor a custom fly rod. He likes to steelhead fish and from what I gather from him, he likes a 9’ - 11’ rod in a 9-11 weight. I’m not a fly fisherman so what blank do you guys suggest. I want an upper end quality blank.
Thanks

I use this stuff now. HWI Tipsie Dust PyroCrystalline Epoxy Played around with it and once I understood how to melt it correctly, the stuff is strong. Left a tip top in my car back window for a test on a 92* day and couldn’t twist it off.
