Does anyone know where I can purchase just the reel/handle for a palm rod? Did a web search and came up empty. I would like to try to make one to see how they perform.
Thanks, Dave Re: Palm rod for ice fishing

I haven't ever found a source for them. One thing I can tell you is that palm rods/reels don't 'perform' in any way, shape, or form. The reel is a line storage device. The rod is a short (8-12 inch) stiff piece that serves to hold the spring bobber/strike indicator. I've used them in the past and they are an effective, but very specialized, way of fishing. If you watch competitive ice anglers, they often hook a fish, then actually throw the rod behind them onto the ice in order to help with line management. The fish is fought through handlining. Of course, they are typically catching roach (minnows) and the like. Typical line strengths are 3/4-2lb or so - the line is simply too thin to use the rod with. Re: Palm rod for ice fishing
