Post a picture in the Photo section. With all of the expert rod builders on this forum, someone will be able to tell you what guide it is.

You can also extend the butt wrap into the grip area and hide the tie off under the grip. This will make the wrap look as if it is coming out of the fore grip. If you do the same for a split grip, the wrap will look as if it continuous with all of the tie offs hidden under the grips.

I contacted Mudhole and they said that they will not stock them. However, they said that they can order the parts for you.

This might be a good opportunity to use the telescoping handle system by Manley Rods. I believe Mudhole carries them now.

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but as long as we are on the subject; where can I purchase telescoping rod blanks? Thanks, Andres Perez

As long as the grip is not loose, you should be fine. Keep in mind that this is the rear grip. If it was the fore grip, you might have an issue. Also the grip will be held in place by the reel seat and butt cap. Therefore, you only need enough epoxy to prevent it from spinning.

Your best bet is to get extra guides and do a static load test. The remaining guides, if any, can be used on the next build.

There is a good video on the Flex Coat website for writing on the blanks. You can also write on a clear lable and then transfer that to the blank. This gives you a flat surface to write on.

I only cover the threads, but I don't think it really matters.

Matt,
The Mudhole pink blanks work great. I did leave one in direct sunlight and the color faded to white. This is the extreme case and the remainder of the blanks have no issues with regular use.

16. Re: Epoxy gliter
Any fine glitter will work. Mudhole has it too.

Incorrect sizing of components (ie. guides, reel seats, handle length) and odd spacing of guides that it obvious that a proper static test was not performed. Gaps in the thread art. Bubbles in the finish. I have been building rods for a long time, but I can honestly say that I have done all of these at one point in time. :)

I always place the customer's name or phrase on top and my company logo and rod information on the bottom. Never had an issue with that approach.

Mark,
That is a recipe for disaster. If you promised him the rod before the trip, you might need to bight the bullet and hope for the best. If this is something that just came up, let him know of the possible issues and have him make the decision. This will put the liability back on him.
Good luck,

21. Re: Printer?
I have an HP 6310. It's an older model, but works great. The newer ones do not print the black dark enough. Try to get an older model HP.

I saw a tutorial where they show how it's done. They used a large syringe with tinted Rod Bond. I'll try to find that tutorial.

Barry,
Build yourself some nice rods, take plenty of pictures and use for marketing your work. After a season or two, sell them as used rods on the @#$%& site or CG. Worst case scenario, you had fun building them, fishing them and you might get your money back.

Wow, that is odd. Try backing out the reel seat and trying different starting points to see if you get lucky and catch the threads that result in the correct position,
Best of luck,

Chris,
Did you use the reel to determine the distance between the two sections of the reel seat? I install the lower section, as you did, and use the reel to determine where I will install the top section. I cut the threads to be slightly shorter than the foregrip so that the threads are not visible. You might need to cut off the threads and install new ones using the reel as a template for
