31. weaving loom
seems to me that a loom is a device to organize thread, right? I do not own one, but looking at the price of some of them, I am not sure that I will! I have seen pics in catalogs, and it looks like one could be built very easily. I am thinking about using a piece of plexiglas for the base and gluing some foam w/ equally spaced slits cut into it to hold the treads. Does anybody have any other

32. Weaving loom
At the Lamiglas seminars I was able to see and learn many cool things. Thanks to all who presented methods / shared experience / displayed their handiwork. It was definitely worthwhile! Kerry Hansen brought some of his rods / weaves and his loom. Wonderful work! Have any of you used the loom he was using? If so, any input / ideas? Improvements?
Thanks.

33. Weaving jigs?
I was thinking of making a weaving jig to see if I care for weaving. Looking around I see some round jigs that wrap around the rod, some flat jigs with "V" foam blocks, and some like the flat jigs that are just curved 90*. Any preferences? Is one better than the other, or does it just depend on the type of weave being done? Has this area already been covered on here?
Thanks.

The good news is that I finally finished my first weave and it turned out quite nice. The big oops, is that I tightened the set screws on the Wonder Weaver too much and now I have some indents in a custom built cork grip. As I see it, if I fill the dents with filler, they are uniformly spaced and it will be too obvious that the filler shouldn't be there. I'm open to suggestions on how to corre

I bought a ww at the High Point show last Feb and am finally getting around to setting it up. My question is, how do I cut the thread slots into the foam wheels? Do I use a razor blade or...? Thank You

36. Weaving
Looking to get into weaving and looking for advice on looms. I plan to (of course with lots of practice) do some of those dragon patterns, multi color, multi layer ie.. more complicated weaves down the road. I guess my question is how far will a Doc Ski 100 thread loom take me vs pulling the trigger on one of the wonder weaver?? What are the limitations or draw backs of each. Is one better (easie

38. Wonder Weaver
I am considering venturing into the weaving form of thread art.
I have been looking at the Wonder Weaver looms and was wondering which one is the easiest to use.
Should I get the Wonder Weaver or the Wonder Weaver II. I am not fussed about the cost and would rather spend the money to get the right tool.
Thanks

When adding visual markings to the foam slots on a Wonder Weaver in order to help find the slots to help speed things up, what do the pro's use for pens or markers...(I'm sure its in Jim Uptons book, but for the life of me, I CAN"T FIND MY COPY) I made a mess of Billy's "NERBS loaner"WonderWeaver by using a standard BIC pen.......extra fine Sharpie?

Sorry the NERBS event last weekend was canceled , I was looking forward to seeing the Dog poop handle you worked so hard on. Billy promised I would be able to weave after this event and then canceled it. Thats OK. I dont really have the bling for a wonder weaver anyway.

Hi All,
Can anyone recommend a book or CD that would explain how to do custom wraps? Something that would be a good starting point and oriented towards the beginner. Also, what kind of weaving tools could be purchased that wouldn't break the bank and still be functional and easy to use?
It's time to move past trim bands...
Thanks
Lynn

Just received my shipment of Jim Uptons's weaving book, A Guide to THREAD WEAVING for the Custom Rod Builder and got it up for sale on the NERBs site.
Those looking to weave, look no further. I glanced through the book right quick and it takes from from A to Z from start to finish. Includes an advanced section, tips, tricks, tools EVERYTHING! I'm gonna read my copy tonight and will update the

Man I'm chomping at the bit, really looking forward to attending my first Expo and I've got another lame question.
Is there anywhere to securely store my purchases inside the Convention Center during the show without having to take them out to the truck everytime I get more than I can carry? Maybe this has already been asked and answered but I can't find it.
Thanks

I am attempting to weave a pattern with my new wonder weaver and I am using sulky thread because of the much more diverse color availability. I am having a very difficult time with the thread adhering to the masking tape on my layout threads. Is it me, the tape or thread? I am frustrated to no end, I place the thread in it's place and it just falls off. I tried using different tape and it hasn't

G'day,
I am very happy and excited to announce the imminent release of "VisualWEAVE".
VisualWEAVE is new weaving design software. Don't get it confused with other software currently available, VisualWEAVE is a totally new product by the author of VisualWRAP - Cross Wrap Design Software (that's me, Dave Boyle!)
Some of you may have used Cross-Stitch software to create grid patt

well since it's the new year i think i need to get a real wrapper instead of this hand wrapper. it works fine and does it's job ok but i can't shave cork or hypalon if i need to adjust a grip after it's on the rod so if you had your choice what rod wrapper would you buy. i'm also getting a lathe here soon so i can turn handles so bear that in mind

Hello All,
Welp its been along time since I have been here.
How's everyone doing, fine I hope.
Well I went and did it I bought the wonder weaver and I am about to start my first project with it.
I have a question on what size thread to use. First let me tell you what I am building on.
It will be a Gator Glass t 80 xh blank. I will be weaving about 16" between the grips on butt wrap.

Earlier I mentioned that the next issue or two of RodMaker was going to feature the neatest self-contained rod building work station that I've ever seen. I got so many emails asking me for photos, plans, etc., that I think what we'll do is produce a series of articles (2, perhaps 3 installments) on how to build your own. Depending on what you have and what you need to acquire, you could build th

55. Weave Jig
Have any of you attempted to create your own weave jig? Until I break down and buy one, I seem to be stuck with the tape method. Doing the weave I have created will be more than one layer, something I have not tried and somehow I do not think the tape method will work very well for this application.
Something I came up with uses flexi-foam off of the concept of the Wonder Weaver. But I cannot

I have a question on the wonder weaver. What is the difference with the two wheel version and the three wheel? Can I do all the same things with the two wheel you can with the three wheel? If this is a dumb question I'm sorry, fairly new to the intricate weaves.

Not so new to building or lurking around on this site but very new to posting here. My question is this, of all the equipment and things you use in rod building is there one or two in particular that sticks out in your mind as a “have to have†gadget. I have most all the large ($) equipment I need for now but I have been wondering if there isn’t a whole lot of other, smaller thin

In response to a phone conversation I had with a dealer a bit earlier today, I wanted to make mention of some security issues that we had at the recent International Custom Rod Building Exposition. No, it was not my intention to cover anything up, only that I didn’t want to cast any shadows over what was, by nearly all accounts, the largest and finest rod building event ever held. However...
