Help W Sulky Thread

I am attempting to weave a pattern with my new wonder weaver and I am using sulky thread because of the much more diverse color availability. I am having a very difficult time with the thread adhering to the masking tape on my layout threads. Is it me, the tape or thread? I am frustrated to no end, I place the thread in it's place and it just falls off. I tried using different tape and it hasn't made a difference. Please ,what can be done or what can I possibly be doing wrong?

If its sulky rayon, you are in for problems anyway. Probably has a lubricant on it for sewing machines. Good Wraps.. Russell C. Bastrop,Tx. Re: Help W Sulky Thread

I use a lot of Sulky metallics and a few non-metallics (non-rayon, too) and I don't believe any of their threads carry the lubricant on them because I don't use CP and have no fish-eye issues like I do with the Madeira threads.
I'm not sure what's causing the "no stick" problem you're having. Maybe you do have some Sulky that's been coated with a lubricant, I'm not sure. But of all the spools of it that I have (and I do like the Sullky and use it quite a bit, too), I've not had a glimmer of a lubrication issue that shows up with those dreaded fish-eyes in the finish Could also be oils on your fingers going to the threads, I suppose. I've had that happen when weaving and using tape. (edit spelling; long day...) Putter Williston, ND Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/30/2008 11:54PM by Randy Parpart (Putter). I have been using two sided carpet tape for the same reason. Its much more stickier and thinner. You can find it in any hardware store. Give that a try. Re: Help W Sulky Thread

Scott,
I tried the carpet tape also with no luck. These spools do say rayon on the side. Does that mean they can't be used with tape? Jeff Leonard Re: Help W Sulky Thread

To tell you the truth, I have never tried any rayon thread. I read everyone posts about rayon and decided it been tried and tested and I never heard anything good, so I stay away from it. I was having problem with masking tape and regular nylon and polyneon thread until I switched to the carpet tape. Most of the time I take a steel ice pick and press down on the thread while rolling it on the tape. Makes it stick better. Have you tried anything like that? Re: Help W Sulky Thread

Jeff, I do all my weaves with Madeira, but stay away from the Rayon, use the sulky polyester. I also use the carpet tape and have no problems, I also after I have laid down a layer(assuming you are doing a color change weave) I tape that layer down with 1/4" masking tape and then put more carpet tape down and start the next layer. Hope this helps Scott Re: Help W Sulky Thread

Thanks Guys,
It appears the problem is the rayon. I have tried pressing it into the tape and it still falls off. I have been able to get thirty threads to hold but took twice as long as it should have. Jeff Leonard Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
