I am in the process of learning to weave and have a more advanced question. In the future I am planning a weave on the foregrip of a 15 foot float rod. This weave will be very complicated and probably take me well over 100 hours to complete. Now my question is this, I am going to be wrapping it on the foregrip because it is a rather large pattern & it will be several hundred threads & so

I was considering buying myself a Wonder Weaver for Christmas and, being completely naive about weaving, I was wondering if anyone can help me answer a few questions. Firstly, I use a hand wrapper and don't know if I need a power wrapper to use this tool. I was also wondering about patterns, is there anywhere I can download patterns? I remember seeing some patterns in Rodmaker but I haven't

Hello All Just a quick update on my progress. After receiving all my supplies from MudHole I started practicing my pattern weaving. Ok so I need TONS of practice there but I have drawn up a few of my own patterns and have lots of time to practice. BTW the Renzetti wonder weaver is a really nice tool. I also attempted my first feather inlay on the ferrule of a Pac Bay spinning blank. GREAT S

Tom, I am trying to purchase Volume 3 #4 because of the article of guide spacing it has. On the website the list only shows to Volume 5 #1 Is the volume I am looking for still available? Is there another volume that would have good articles on guide spacing like the Fuji New Concept system? Thanks for the information Regards Scott

Hello All I have a couple of somewhat dumb questions. I am in the market for a lathe with the ability to turn cork/wood grips/handles/seats as well as wrap rods and I would like to have a laser attachment for guide alignment. Can anyone direct me to the right website so I can read up on them. I have seen the Renzetti and I think I could do all this with it, but to be honest it is a little

Hi All I've been playing around with some simple weaves and am ready to buy a loom. Problem is I have little or no idea of what's out there. I've seen rigs from $20.00 to $380.00. Anyone have some advice or preferences? I'm going to be mostly doing letters, fish and emblems on fly rods. I do want to progress to more complex projects. Thanks

I will gladly pay from $ 17.50 to $ 21.35 plus shipping for a little bottle containing 100 two inch long x 4.5 64ths diameter high temperature hot melt sticks for tip top installation. I am down until Tuesday with a razor blade cut finger! Guess I will have to fish a couple of days! If you are interested in anything you do not have that would make your rodbuilding life easier please list it o

After pouring through the photo galleries I have decided that I would like to try my hand at doing a closed butt wrap with a weave overlay like in Jim Kastorf's gallery. I have purchased Doc Ski's dvd and have done a couple of weaves and love doing that but now I need to know what dvd or book to purchase to learn how to do the closed wrapping style ( haven't even tried open yet, so I don't know w

Has anyone tried the new Easyweave looms? Looking for feedback on how well they work. Is color change possible with these?

Finally got the Pictures posted yesterday of the weaves I did with the Wonder Weaver. A sailfish and the IWFA 06. 180 degrees from each other. I built this rod for there annual @#$%&. It is spiral wrapped in IWFA colors Green and White. Check them out it is the best sailfish I have done to date. The Wonder Weaver really kept the threads spread out. Thanks for looking Scott

Does anyone know if a website exists that shows the full spectrum of Doc Ski's designs? I recently purchased one of his designs from a local retailer, but there was no picture of what it will look like upon completion. The design was titled "salmon deluxe" has any of you done or heard of this design and have photos of it? I would like to see it before spending all that time on the proje

The link for the new EasyWeave Loom is now active. You can find it to the left in the sponsor column. I saw these in Charlotte and have to say they are very nicely made. A great way to get started in weaving at a very low price. ............

Frist off, I'd like to thank everyone for everything. How's that for a blanket statement? The NERBs couldn't have asked for a better time at the show, before the show, after the show. Everything was great....until we (Seane & I) set foot in New York pavement. We hit a pohole, and broke the ball & socket joint on teh front left wheel. Fortunately, we made it off the bridge, and almost to t

As far as I know, there is only place on the planet where a rod builder can go and actually sit down and try out the lathes and wrapping machines from Pacific Bay, American Tackle, Batson Enterprises, Flex Coat, Gudebrod and Renzetti. Also one of the few places where you can actually talk to some of the folks who actually designed and make these machines. At the National Rod Builders Show, you

Does anyone have any experience with the Wonder Weaver? I've watched the DVD on this and the rod appears to be set up on a lathe. Is a lathe required to make this thing work properly? Can it be used on a simple rod wrapping stand? Finally, is there a cheaper alternative to the Wonder Weaver?

I have been weaving with the Renzetti wonder weaver for awhile.... I have been trying to do a colour weave on a fly rod--6wt., but am having a hard time manipulating the thread, so I don't have uneven bulges (I guess that's what you would call it.) I know there are many experts out there, and I'm not trying to get you to give away your secrets, but do many of you artists do colour weaves on fly

I spent over an hour yesterday admiring the work in the photos section of the site. All I can say is: Wow, you guys are incredible! I want to know how you learned such great threadwork? Are there any books you can recommend, that will teach an eager but true beginner how to weave? I'm interested in artwork as well as letters/numbers in thread. I know it will take lots of time and practice

Mark, I have just visited your gallery and although I am not really keen on decorative wraps on a light fly rod (my preference is for inlaid turns and thread trim rings), I must admit that I was really impressed by some of your patterns, and I would give the gold medal to your “weave pattern” May Fly. How do you do that? Where can I find some guide lines to follow so as to do this, taki

Hello, I completed my first Wonder Weaver weave last night and although the weave turned out well I ran into another problem. I attempted to pad the rod where the screws from weaver came in contact with the cork grip I built but I still managed to put three nice dents in the cork. I tried putting ice on the dents which helped a little but it is still quite noticable. The rod is a X-mas gift for

There are a lot of professional rod builders on this site who build numerous rods for other anglers. After building all those rods you must know what's good and what isn't Just out of curiosity, what rods do you build for yourselves?
